- Yala National Park - What to Expect – Yala National Park is the top destination in the country for wildlife enthusiasts. The park’s main attraction is the Leopard, with Yala Block I reputed to have the world’s highest density of these majestic cats.
Leopards are naturally elusive, so it is advisable to embark on at least three to four game drives to maximize the chances of sightings. The park is also one of the rare locations in the country where the endangered shaggy-coated Sloth Bear can be observed. Visitors may also encounter Asian Elephants, including solitary bull elephants, a few renowned tuskers, and small groups of females with calves. Other larger mammals that might be spotted include Jackals, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Buffalo, Wild Boar, and the Grey Langur. During the dry season, from June to September, large numbers of Mugger Crocodiles can be seen in the shrinking waterholes.
