The park is particularly famous for its large population of Sri Lankan elephants, often seen wandering freely across its open landscapes.
After the safari, guests will proceed to visit the Elephant Transit Home.
The Elephant Transit Home – “Ath Athuru Sevana” is a government-operated facility located in Udawalawe, dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of orphaned, abandoned, injured, or sick baby elephants found in the wild. These young elephants receive proper treatment and care until they are strong and independent enough to be released back into their natural habitat.
A highlight of the visit is observing the feeding time, a truly memorable and heartwarming experience as the elephants are fed in a natural, non-intrusive setting.
