  We were mesmerized by the sheer number of elephants, often in large groups with adorable calves in tow. Watching these gentle giants in their natural environment—unbothered by the jeeps—is a humbling experience. The drivers are respectful of the animals, maintaining a balance that ensures neither the wildlife nor the visitors feel intruded upon.

The best times to visit the park are at 7:00 AM or 6:00 PM, when the animals are most lively. During the day, the heat causes them to seek shade, making sightings less common. For the safari, the group departed Tangalle at 4:30 AM, reaching the park around dawn. This early start was rewarded with stunning views of Sri Lanka waking up—golden light spreading over paddy fields, water buffalo grazing, and peacocks confidently strutting on the roads. Along the journey, there were also glimpses of local life, including peaceful morning devotions to Lord Buddha.
