- Put Polja 40 - We will visit Klis Fortress, a stronghold of Croatian Christian identity and the frontier between two great medieval empires, the Venetian and Ottoman Turkish. This strategic location offers stunning views of Split, the islands of Brac and Hvar, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding mountains and valleys. We will be hosted by an ‘uskok,’ a medieval warrior who will explain the defensive strategies and medieval weapons used by both the Venetian and Ottoman Turkish sides. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, our guide will share stories about Daenerys and the Meereen scenes filmed at the fortress. After visiting Klis Fortress, we will descend into the fields below Klis village to a beautiful olive garden. Surrounded by trees and nature, you will learn all about our cuisine, its ingredients, herbs, and spices while enjoying traditional delicacies such as delicious Croatian wines, meat, and seafood specialties flavored with olive oil made from the surrounding olive trees. Away from the city’s hustle and bustle, you will experience the best authentic historical and gastronomic experience that Split’s inland can offer. Your olive garden journey ends with a full stomach, a smile on your face, newfound knowledge about local cuisine, and a drive back to Split.
