From the moment we started walking - I’ve done quite a few tours around Johannesburg, but this Soweto experience hit differently. From the moment we started walking down Vilakazi Street, I could feel the pride, rhythm, and resilience of the township. Our guide—born right here in Soweto—wasn’t just knowledgeable, he was real. He shared his childhood memories, the creative energy that shaped him as a fashion designer and digital marketer, and how that same energy still runs through the streets today. Visiting Mandela House and the Hector Pieterson Museum was deeply emotional. I grew up hearing about Soweto’s history, but standing there, listening to someone who lived it, gave me chills. The street food stop was the cherry on top—nothing beats a freshly made kota shared with locals while laughing over street stories. What I loved most was how personal and authentic everything felt. It wasn’t staged or commercialised—it was raw, proud, and human. I left feeling inspired, grounded, and reminded of what makes South Africa truly beautiful: its people.
