Red Canyon Thunder Mountain Trail Horseback Ride

We did the Thunder Mountain horse trail ride and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cowboy Steve was a very helpful and friendly guide. However, as somewhat experienced riders, this ride was challenging in areas for both riders and horses. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. The scenery was breath-taking and the service was timely and caring. Thanks for the amazing experience!

Everything about the ride was great. Our cowboy Mike was the best! Knowledgeable about the land, personable, funny , told great stories. It was a pleasure to have him as a guide. And of course he is a real cowboy. What else would someone expect from a real Texan ! The horses were great. Steady and strong they provided a very smooth ride . They know the trail well . Can’t beat the views!

Mike, our wrangler, was GREAT! He worked with our small group to make sure we had the right horses for each of us. He made sure we were comfortable and safe on the ride by checking in with each of us individually at different stages of the ride and by asking any cyclists or other riders we passed about other trail users and their locations/direction (we actually had cyclists pushing their bikes UP the trail and a large group of horseback riders coming down the trail). He let us stop for lots of photos and took photos of our group so we have more than just selfies to show. He shared information about the area, flora and fauna. He was prepared with supplies like toilet paper. He timed the ride/pace so that we did not run into the large cattle drive of riders from Ruby's. He was very professional and obviously knows his business and how to satisfy the customer. Lunch was really good and had an excellent variety of food. The roast beef sandwich was out of this world and we tried to go to the restaurant for lunch the next day but there was only one server and a LONG wait. Pre-trip communication was lacking. I tried to reconfirm via telephone as directed per the confirmation email but couldn't reach anyone. I did get a quick response to my follow-up email. You should consider saying that the meeting place is at "Red Canyon Trail Rides Corral" located at MM 10 on Hwy 12" as we were confused as to why we were meeting at a mile marker. Excellent trip. Loved, loved, loved the small group. SOOO glad we didn't go with Ruby's huddled masses. Thank you Mike!

Guides were friendly and helpful.

Both wranglers (Justin and Mike) we’re very friendly and entertaining. The ride was a good mix of open trail and narrow climbs and descents, with sure footed horses and fantastic vistas. The only downside from my point of view was the lack of opportunity to trot or canter, and the lack of responsiveness of the horse. However the overall experience was great and thoroughly recommended.
