Incredible all-day tour - We had an unforgettable day on the Monument Valley/Mystery Valley Navajo Spirit Tour (listed on the operator’s website). The scenery was absolutely spectacular, and being able to get so close to the formations made the experience even more incredible. My husband and our two friends appreciated the well-timed stops and the generous opportunities to take photos along the way. Our Navajo guide, Sariah Holiday, was wonderful. She shared the cultural significance of the rock formations for the Navajo and other ancestral tribes, along with stories about the movies and commercials that have been filmed in the area. I especially loved hearing her personal stories about growing up nearby and visiting these places with her dad—and the moment when she played the flute while we quietly took in the landscape was truly special. After an hour lunch break, we continued into Mystery Valley, a restricted area that can only be visited with a guide. Sariah explained the history of the Ancestral Anasazi ruins, pointed out fascinating petroglyphs, and demonstrated how many of the monuments were formed. It was an incredible, meaningful experience that we will never forget. 🌄

A Genuine, Personal and Real Tour - What an Adventure! - Wow! What an amazing, once in a lifetime experience. We knew the scenery would be spectacular, we were staying at The View and had woken up to a glorious sunrise, but our trip with Sariah was awesome. I'm English, so 'awesome' is not a word I use lightly! Our experience started at the Welcome Centre. We were there early and met Sariah almost immediately. We had an open top jeep and we were glad that we'd wrapped up well- the early March weather was sunnier than usual, but the wind was biting cold! Sariah is an excellent driver and guide (thoughtfully getting a stool out to help me climb the jeep steps with my short legs!), sharing family stories, Navajo culture and making sure that we knew we could 'ask her anything'. We did. Our questions ranged from rock formations to schooling and cultural ceremonies - Sariah answered them all, even with a demonstration of the way the sand and water react here in the valley. Our tour took in multiple stops including the Mittens and Merrick Butte, John Ford Point, Hõghan, the Sun's Eye Petroglyphs, Moccasin Arch and the Ear of the Wind. The highlight for me was lying back on the hot sandstone rock and listening to Sariah play a traditional Navajo flute. The harmony of the music and the landscape and the glorious weather combined to make a completely spiritual experience. I booked our tour with Navajo Spirit Tours based on recommendations made in various Facebook travel groups that I had used to plan this 'bucket list' adventure. I was not at all disappointed - and you won't be either. This felt genuine, personal and real. We were very, very pleased that weren't on a big group tour with the tannoy speakers - we appreciated the peaceful quiet of the valley and its spirit. Thank you for an amazing adventure.

!!! Great Tour - highly recommended - learned a lot!!!! - WOW! A great tour. Gary was an exceptional guide! In addition to showing some of the most amazing geological and historical sites, he provided many exceptional insights into the Navajo culture and lifestyle. Tour was well paced and covered a lot of ground. We have scheduled a 2nd day of tours in Monument Valley and were concerned that we were going to bein seeing the same areas twice. No worries there! Gary took us into other areas were we saw cliff dwelling, petroglyphs, dinosaur foot prints and the most remarkable natural features. Gary's style was geared around teaching us and every question was answered with in depth and highly relevant information. Highly recommended!

Mystery Tour back country of Monument Valley - It’s a rough road and 8 miles of highway driving to get to the destination. Sariah was full of information and answered all our questions

Once in a lifetime must do experience! - Highly recommend Garry Holiday, our Navajo tour guide. He is the elder of the family who runs this tour company. Garry is deeply knowledgeable and deeply spiritual in presenting the Navajo culture. Stunning scenery and special service by Garry.

Great tour offering insights into the Navajo history! - The tour was in an adjacent area to Monument Valley. We were able to get up close to petroglyphs, First People granaries, an arch and pancake rocks. The guide also offered an insight in to Navajo life – very interesting.

Best Tour Ever - We took several tours of Monument Valley. Navajo Spirit was by far the best. In fact, it was the best tour we've ever taken including Stonehenge and Pompeii. Our guide Gary who founded the company was extremely informative about the history and culture of the Navajo people. He helped us climb to an alcove which would have been difficult without aid. He sang Dine songs, accompanying himself with drum and guitar. He also played a beautiful Navajo flute made by his son. IF YOU TAKE ONE TOUR of Monument Valley MAKE IT NAVAJO SPIRIT.

Loved the scenery; the guide drove well, but his facts were severely lacking - Overall, the tour was fine, but I was underwhelmed. A lot of that had to do with the guide's increasingly outlandish claims. Good things: - Scheduling flexibility. They let us re-schedule on short notice (within a couple hours of the tour starting), which I hugely appreciated. I was ill the night before the tour and figured I'd have to call it a loss because their cancellation policy didn't allow so late of a change, but they were flexible and responsive when texted and I was able to go on the tour a few days later. - Reliable. The driver arrived ten minutes before start time in a van with the logo, exactly per the instructions. The instructions were well written. - Freedom to explore. I did not think we'd be allowed to walk on the rocks because of the 'no climbing' policy but the guide let us wander around the sites and walk on and up the sandstone mounds, which was the best part and a lot of fun. - Good driving. There were a couple gnarly areas of the playa-and-rock road that made me nervous but the guide drove with confidence and I trusted his ability to make it up the rocky paths. - A pretty and unique area. Though not iconic like Monument Valley, the scenery felt otherworldly. - The guide, Will, was friendly and talkative and had all sorts of stories. - The ruin was pretty cool. The pottery shards were kind of interesting. Neutral things: - I wanted the open-air vehicle but my companion wanted the closed vehicle, so this is a personal preference. Granted, we went in winter, so it was sub-40 degrees when we started and I could see wanting to be in a warm van. (The other tour group we saw was in open air.) - I didn't see any arches, though maybe I had to hike farther? The rock was pretty steep, so I didn't climb very high. Bad things: - The promised toilet at the visitor center was locked. That was a disappointment as we had driven quite a ways and needed to use the facilities. We were directed to a gas station a couple miles away which, luckily, was serviceable (I'm picky about public toilets) but I was irritated that the guide couldn't get it unlocked for us. - No flute playing. Maybe I am misremembering, but I thought there would be a flute. Could have been a different company offering that. In any case, I did not feel the 'spiritual peace' that was suggested by the website. (The website could also use an uplift. I was depending on another tour group's website to have a detailed idea of what to expect on the Mystery Valley tour.) - The petroglyphs were kind of lame. It was like 'oh, up there might be a goat' among the modern graffiti. - The guide, Will Cowboy, talked non-stop for almost the entire 3.5-hour tour. At first, I thought it was because he had so much good information to impart that he wished to convey as much as possible. But after the first excellent hour, his claims of all the amazing things the Navajo had done became more and more outlandish. He contradicted himself often, was inconsistent about what message he was trying to convey, said many things that were erroneous, and many more that were outright false when I fact checked him later. At the end, he went on for maybe fifteen minutes, repeating himself, talking about how the Navajos don't intermarry among clans and, incredulously, knew what DNA was before scientists. (Yes, it's a good play on words, but by that point, I didn't believe a word he said.) I was kind of wondering if he was killing time because it seemed we did not make as many stops as I was expecting. We only made three stops that I recall (the Skull rock, the Pancake rocks, and the Ruin) which was fewer than mentioned in the description. In the internet age, information is democratized. So a lot of this 'information suppression' he claimed should no longer be an issue. If it is, he'll need to make that case a LOT better and without relying on misconceptions. Point me to the post in the Navajo subreddit at the very least, then we'll talk.
