Great service with all the right local tips! - The team run an excellent service. Highly maintained bikes, instructions and tips were absolutely sensational and our big group was organised and on their way in no time. Nothing was a problem, friendly smiling team that started our day just the right way. An absolute must do.

Very positive. - Only wanted a two hour hire, the team at Murwillumbah were most accommodating. My wife has never ridden an EV assist push bike, so a short ride suited us.

Great day out northern rivers rail trail - So easy picking up the ebikes at the station at the start of the rail trail all ready to go. Helmets, bags, locks, lights ready for the tunnel. Bought delicious Moo Goo Roadhouse sandwiches and coffee at Hosanna Farmstay cafe. Better by bikes provided a very easy service for a fantastic day out.

Excellent - A very convenient and professional operation. Staff were friendly and went the extra mile with sizing the bikes and fully explaining everything. Also pointed out things of interest to look for.

Great staff support for a gorgeous ride - The bikes were perfect, the trail was gorgeous, and Evelyn set us up perfectly for a wonderful day. Her suggestions about stops were spot on (loved Teakwood Cafe!) and her description of the ride itself was excellent

Really wheely great - Fantastic experience, thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family. We were a walk-in and during the school holiday, but the bike shop were extremely accommodating and managed to find us four electric bikes and we were quickly on our way. Lots of opportunities to stop off for breaks on the way. Loved the way they’ve maintained several original sections of track, stations and bridges on the way, with information boards to share their history. Can’t wait to explore another section.

Stunning scenery, great fun - We had great instructions on how to operate the bikes and we were off! The track was some seal and some even easy gravel. We meandered through beautiful farmland, lush bush, river crossings and spectacular views. The highlight were the long tunnels in darkness where we needed our bike torch. We got to the end and on the way back found a place by the river for our picnic and rest. Easily done in 4 hours with the added Bonus of evoke assistance. Strongly recommend for everyone

Better By Bike did not live up to its motto of “Best Day Ever.” - Unfortunately, Better By Bike did not live up to its motto of “Best Day Ever.” The Northern Rivers Rail Trail itself is excellent and a great way to explore the region. Approximately 10km into our family ride, my 13-year-old daughter’s chain came off while she was riding normally and stopping at a road crossing. I refitted the chain but found the derailleur was bent. Without tools, I contacted Cameron using the provided number. Cameron arrived within approximately 30 minutes. We attempted to straighten the derailleur unsuccessfully, and a replacement bike was provided so we could complete the ride. At this stage, I was satisfied with the response. On returning the bikes, Cameron challenged my daughter and me about the cause of the damage. My daughter stated again that she had changed gears and the chain jammed. Cameron suggested scratches on the derailleur indicated the bike had fallen, which my daughter denied. Despite this, he concluded it was “user error” and advised we would be charged $200 for parts and labour. An online check showed the derailleur retailing for approximately $80. When queried, Cameron stated the hanger was also bent. To avoid disrupting the family day, I agreed to pay but requested the replaced part. The on-site mechanic removed it within minutes and confirmed the hanger was not bent. Following this, Cameron refunded $50 for the hanger. In retrospect, the handling of the situation was disappointing. My daughter was left feeling accused of dishonesty, which significantly affected her enjoyment of the day. The scratches cited were likely pre-existing, suggesting the failure may have resulted from prior damage rather than misuse. While I accept responsibility for genuine damage, the assumption of fault and charging full retail plus labour under these circumstances was unreasonable. We will not be recommending or hiring from Better By Bike again.
