Michael & Askos tours. - Michael was our archeologist tour guide. He was imparted his knowledge of the digs, his personal experience at the ruins and his history in the area in a way that could be understood by all. He was humorous, patient and kind, answering questions in a professional manner. We highly recommend him as a tour guide.

Pompeii tour small group Great! - Antonio was a brilliant guide and being a small group of 25 people he was able to adapt to questions to show areas that are not always shown. We were able to see the very recent (3years) archeological digs (no photos which was fine as this area is newly revealed so a must to go on the tour and felt special) March is a great time.

Small Group with Excellent Tour Guide - The tour was well-organised and the Archaeologist tour guide Gennaro was brilliant. Having a knowledgeable guide who can confidently manage questions deftly was an added bonus. We learnt so much and deeply appreciated hearing about the continuing excavations and other matters. A highly recommended tour.

Excellent Experience - We were picked up right outside our hotel for the short coach ride to Pompeii. The archeologist gave a very informative talk on the eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed both Pompeii and Herculaneum. When we arrived at the first site, we checked in and were soon exploring the amazing remains of what had been a thriving community. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us an amazing insight into the day to day life of ancient Pompeii life. We started reasonably early so initially we had no problems entering the houses, temples, bathhouses, etc, but it soon became very busy, even for March. We had around 2 hours here and saw most of the main interesting sites. We were then taken to a large modern shopping mall for lunch (our expense) and then on to the second site at Herculaneum. This was much smaller than Pompeii and in our opinion the most interesting. It was much more intact and had a lot more internal features that had not been destroyed by the eruption. There were also a lot of reconstructed skeleton scenes, at an area that would have been the sea shore back in time. It was originally a fishing port, but the sea has receded much further away today. Some parts of the site are very steep and most of the roads are made up of large basalt boulders, so if you struggle with walking it may prove difficult for you. Around 4pm, we made our way back to Naples and arrived back around 5pm. Our guide/archeologist was amazing and we enjoyed his knowledge throughout the whole trip. All in all a fabulous day trip and worth the money. 5*

Great guide, but take note - Alberto, our archaeologist guide, was fantastic! 10 stars for him. The tour overall was good but with two qualifications- first, we stopped at a mall for lunch (on our own) and spent an hour there - way too much time at a random place. Second, we had an amazing detailed tour at Herculaneum but not enough time at Pompeii. We saw a lot, learned a lot, but the wasteful use of time at lunch wd have been much better spent on a quick stop and more time at Pompeii. The logistics were all smooth- train tix from Rome, easy meet-up, and easy return to Rome on the train.
