Lava-ely cave tour - Hidden gem of a tour that is suitable for families even with young kids. Folks with mobility challenges may find it difficult due to the spiral staircase. We learnt a great deal about lava flow and basalt formations. The kids loved the "trolls" and the lights out moment.

Vatnshellir Lava Cave - My partner and I visited Iceland to celebrate my 40th birthday and this was one of the activities we picked on the actual day. We booked an afternoon slot but after seeing the poo weather forecast for the morning, we switched it - it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing when you’re underground! The company were happy to make the change and it was very easy to do so.
We ended up being the only two people on our tour so it felt like we were getting our own private adventure!
Our guide was really friendly and answered all of our questions, including giving us advice about other places to visit on the peninsula.
The lava cave itself was amazing - Such an otherworldly place and unique in its barren beauty. The stairs were steep and the floor uneven but it wasn’t difficult to get about and we were provided with our own torches and safety headwear.
I’d absolutely love to experience this again. I’m sure we will be back for another visit in future.

Highly Recommend - The guide (Anita) was so friendly and knowledgeable about the formations and the history of the Lava Tube. I normally stay far away from ‚Touristy Things‘ but am so glad we went on the tour. In other countries the floor would have been levelled with concrete and lighting put in everywhere but this is really well preserved with the minimum handrails to make it accessible. We all learned new stuff while being guided.

Lovely lava tour - A fabulous subterranean tour. Our guide was excellent, and she led us through the amazing complex of caves and tunnels with lots of explanation and time to explore. A really interesting hour spent, well worth the entrance fee. Thank you!

Cool experience - We went there with our daughter. Never been in a lava tube before so we thought it would be fun. You got a helmet and flashlights as safety equipment. It was very cool and interesting to see how the lava tubes formed. You do have to walk down a metal winding staircase and it is cool and wet down there. There is NO bathroom so go before. No gift shop. Guide was very informative and made the tour interesting.

5 star experience - This is an experience we will nurture and enjoy thinking back to for many years to come. Our host, Thor, was instrumental in creating this experience with story of how it formed and the nature of caves in general.
Five big stars and big thanks for the experience

Good introduction into Icelands geology - We took this tour the second day into our vacation and it was a good start of the Iceland adventure. It gives you an impression about the dimensions of the volcanic activity. Paula explained the making of the cave and its geological features. She couldn't answer all Iceland-specific questions because she didn't seem to be from the area. Anyway, the tour was worthwhile.
