- Berserkjahraun - Berserkjahraun is a 4,000-year-old lava field located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
According to the Icelandic saga, Heiðavíga Saga, the name Berserkjahraun originates from two berserkers whom Víga-Styr employed to clear a path through the lava field. After the path was cleared, Víga-Styr had them killed while they were bathing and defenseless. The path they created is known as Berserkjagata.
From the viewing platform, there is a stunning view over the Berserkjahraun lava field and Lake Selvatn, with a short walk leading to a small waterfall called Sauðafoss.
- Ytri Tunga Beach - Ytri Tunga is a golden sand beach, renowned for its beauty and as a gathering spot for seals, making it ideal for seal watching.
- Bjarnarfoss - Bjarnarfoss is a magnificent waterfall cascading from the top of a basalt cliff approximately 300 meters high, formed by the now extinct volcano Mælifell.
- Budir - The Búðir Black Church is one of Iceland’s most iconic sites, dating back to 1703. It remains fully operational and includes a historic graveyard.
Originally a small turf chapel, history notes that in 1816, Danish King Christian VIII ordered its demolition. In 1848, the church was rebuilt by Sreinunn Sveinsdóttir, and in 1984, it was relocated to its current site.
- Arnarstapi - Arnarstapi is a quaint fishing village on the southern edge of the peninsula, showcasing Iceland’s rich fishing history and folklore. Its accessible location offers breathtaking views of cliffs, striking basalt columns, and unique rock formations shaped by erosion.
Arnarstapi also features the sculpture of Bárður Snæfellsás, a troll from Icelandic folklore believed to have lived in a nearby cave. Many local landmarks, such as Bárðarlaug and Bárðarból, are named after him.
- Djupalonssandur Beach - Djúpalónssandur is known for its black sand beaches. Once home to up to 60 fishing boats and a thriving fishing village, it now offers a serene and picturesque bay.
On the beach, large stones remain, which fishermen historically attempted to lift to test their strength: Fully Strong 154 kg, Half-Strong 100 kg, Weakling 54 kg, and Bungler 23 kg. Failing to lift the Weakling stone marked a man as unsuitable for a fisherman’s life.
- Kirkjufell Mountain - Kirkjufell is one of Iceland’s most famous mountains, with its reflection in nearby waters becoming an iconic image of the country. Standing at approximately 463 meters, it gained fame as the ‘Arrowhead Mountain’ in the TV series ‘Game of Thrones’.
Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls offer a picturesque view with Church Mountain in the background. The old bridge over the falls was once part of the main road before being relocated.
