- White Pass & Yukon Route Railway - All aboard! The adventure begins on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, the exclusive way to reach the Laughton Glacier Trailhead without hiring a helicopter.
While on the train, passengers will receive a lunch sandwich, snacks, and water in a provided lumbar pack to take along on the journey. Enjoy the stunning mountain vistas from the train as it travels along this historic railway. Meet the guide, listen to the exceptional narration on board, and prepare for an exciting hike!
After the hike, the same train will take everyone back to Skagway, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the return trip!
- Laughton Glacier Trailhead - Once the WP&YR drops everyone off at the trailhead, it’s time to gear up and get moving! After a brief safety briefing, participants will be equipped with everything needed for a successful trek! (All guests are provided with ice creepers for navigating the glacier ice, and trekking poles if desired.)
At the end of the hike, gear will be packed away, and a well-deserved rest can be enjoyed while waiting for the WP&YR to pick everyone up for the return to Skagway.
- Laughton Glacier - The Laughton Glacier is located about 3 miles from the Laughton Glacier Trailhead. The tour hikes to the Glacier, where participants gear up with provided ice creepers and then hike on the glacier! The exploration includes all the incredible features the glacier offers, from bubbling glacier water flows, moulins plunging into the depths, crevasses marking the glacial landscape, and occasionally mysterious fountains of ice water. After a break to appreciate the breathtaking scenery and enjoy lunch, the journey back to the trailhead begins to catch the train back to Skagway.

Embark on a journey to the Laughton Glacier, featuring a picturesque train ride on the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, followed by an adventurous hike to the stunning Laughton Glacier, where you can experience the thrill of hiking on a glacier! This is a round-trip trail through the Tongass National Forest. The pace of each tour group determines the hike’s length, which is generally between 6-8 miles.
