One of the key attractions we’ll visit is the Fortress of the Bear, a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to rescuing orphaned bear cubs. Here, you’ll have the chance to observe five Coastal Brown Bears and three Black Bears!
Another feature of the tour is the Sitka National Historical Park. This stop offers insights into Sitka’s Russian and Alaskan Native heritage, beautifully illustrated by the totem poles. The guide will lead you to several totem poles while sharing fascinating stories about Sitka’s past. It’s an excellent opportunity for photos of Sitka’s forest, historical sites, and the shoreline view of our rocky beaches. This is a gentle walking stop on the tour. Please note that we are not ADA accessible.
Our final stop is Japonski Island, a small island connected to the main island by a bridge. Japonski Island is home to our WWII history, the Rocky Gutierrez Airport, the Coast Guard Air Station/boat station, and offers scenic photo opportunities.
