• Kampong Glam - Explore Kampong Glam. The history of Kampong Glam dates back to the 1820s when it was first named. The name is derived from the Malay language where ‘kampung’ means ‘village’ and ‘gelam’ refers to a type of tree known as the Paperbark tree, which was commonly used for shipbuilding. Kampong Glam was historically a fishing village due to its location on the Rochor River. In the 1820s, Sir Stamford Raffles allocated Kampong Glam and an annual stipend to Sultan Hussain Mohammed Shah for the Muslim community after he signed a treaty ceding Singapore to the East India Company. The Sultan used these funds to construct a palace and relocate his entire family and entourage, reportedly over 600 people, to Kampong Glam. With these arrivals, in 1824 the Sultan decided to build a mosque that reflected his status and requested the East India Company to provide the necessary funds.
• Mount Faber Park - Discover Mount Faber. As one of Singapore’s oldest parks, Mount Faber Park is a favored tourist spot. From the peak of Mount Faber, visitors can view Sentosa Island and even Indonesian Island Batam on clear days, enjoying the breathtaking horizon from above.
• Merlion Park - Explore Merlion Park. One of the most renowned depictions of this iconic symbol is the statue located at Merlion Park—a picturesque spot near the mouth of the Singapore River. The Merlion’s fish-like body symbolizes Singapore’s origins as a fishing village, known as Temasek in Malay. The statue’s head represents the city’s original name of Singapura (lion city in Sanskrit). According to legend, Sang Nila Utama—a Srivijayan prince of Palembang—landed on these shores amidst a storm at sea. Near the mouth of the Singapore River, the prince spotted a strange creature which he identified as a lion, thus naming the city Singapura.
