Peles Castle - Begin your journey in Bucharest, where the tour guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to Transylvania. Prepare your camera for some stunning photographic opportunities that will surely impress your Instagram followers!
Your first stop is Peles Castle, a magnificent Neo-Renaissance castle that once served as the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. As you walk up the slope to the castle, passing charming cafes and craft stalls, you’ll be captivated by this architectural gem and its beautiful surrounding garden, standing majestically to welcome visitors.
Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) - Next, venture into the heart of the Carpathian Mountains to explore a 13th-century castle that is a must-see for travelers: Bran Castle.
Nestled among snow-capped mountains, perched on a rock, this red-roofed castle beckons you to explore its interior. The myth, intrigue, and enchantment of this fascinating Transylvanian castle make it the perfect spot for that long-awaited Instagram photo! Although often associated with Dracula, the character from Bram Stoker’s novel, the castle is now a museum showcasing art and furniture collected by Queen Maria of Romania.
Hiking – Brasov city tour – Bear watching – Bran
Piatra Craiului National Park - The Carpathian Mountains are considered Europe’s last true wilderness, and today you’ll discover Transylvania’s untamed beauty. You’ll visit some of the most picturesque mountain villages nestled in the heart of the mountains, where three distinct landscapes converge in a vast natural area. The idyllic surroundings of the Piatra Craiului Mountains and its welcoming people are best experienced on foot, so lace up your hiking boots and let’s explore!
Brasov - The locals here rely on traditional small-scale farming, with cheese and other dairy products as their main source of income. For lunch, you’ll sample some of the local cheese. As some of these villages have only recently become accessible by car, horse-drawn carts remain a common mode of transport, so feel free to greet the locals warmly!
In the afternoon, you’ll head to Brasov, a medieval city that feels like stepping back in time. Rich in history and surrounded by forests, the earliest traces of human activity in Brașov date back to the Neolithic age, with Saxons playing a crucial role in its development.
Here, you’ll visit the Black Church, the country’s main Gothic-style monument, featuring a six-ton bell, the largest in Romania. The history of this remarkable monument is fascinating, with construction beginning around 1383 and interrupted in 1421 due to a Turkish invasion. An earthquake in 1471 led to the early completion of the southern tower, and the church was finished in 1477. After a fire in 1689 destroyed the roof and interior furnishings, the walls were blackened by smoke, earning it the name The Black Church.
Photo tip: Capture the best shot of the Black Church by taking a 10-minute walk uphill to the local viewpoint of the main square. Don’t miss this fantastic photo opportunity!
Muntele Tampa - After relaxing in a cozy cafe, embark on the day’s final adventure, learning about Romania’s rich and diverse fauna, which includes rare or even unique species in Europe.
Did you know that a healthy bear population, a species at the top of the food chain, indicates a well-conserved habitat for other animals? You’ll meet the local ranger and venture deep into the forest to observe the majestic brown bear. The bear observatory is very close to the animals, so remain quiet and attentive; sometimes, the lucky ones spot bear cubs playing nearby!
Bran – Sinca Monastery – Balea Lake – Bucharest
Le Lac Balea - Next, visit Balea Lake, the largest glacier lake and one of the most stunning in the Fagaras massif. Situated atop a mountain at over 2000m altitude, the tranquil landscape offers a peaceful escape from bustling cities. Balea Lake is a splendid natural monument that should be admired when visiting Romania.
Enjoy a picnic by the lake or savor some local soup before heading back to Bucharest.
Before booking, please note that Balea Lake is easily accessible by car in summer, but during the cold season, it can only be reached by cable car from Balea Waterfall. From June to November, your guide will drive you along the Transfagarasan Highway.
In the evening, you’ll arrive in Bucharest and be dropped off at your hotel.
