Setting Sail with Captain Roy

The sun was just beginning to rise over Simpson Bay as I made my way to the dock, ready for a day of adventure on the St Maarten Motorboat Cruise. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about exploring the Caribbean by motorboat. Captain Roy and his first mate, Jaden, greeted us with warm smiles and a quick safety briefing, setting the tone for what promised to be an unforgettable day.

Our first stop was a protected bay just outside the island’s most luxurious resort. The water was a stunning shade of turquoise, and I couldn’t resist diving in for a quick swim. After a leisurely swim, we headed to Lolos for lunch, where I opted for the smoked chicken. The meal was delicious, and the laid-back atmosphere made it easy to lose track of time.

With our appetites satisfied, we set off for Tintamarre Island, a secluded paradise where sea turtles graze in the seagrass. Swimming alongside these gentle creatures was a magical experience, one that left me in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us. We spent some time exploring the island’s pristine beaches before returning to the boat for our next adventure.

A Thrilling Ride to Pinel Island

Our final stop was Pinel Island, where we indulged in refreshing daiquiris at a beachside bar. The island’s relaxed vibe was infectious, and I found myself sinking into a state of pure bliss as I sipped my drink and soaked up the sun. As we prepared to head back, Captain Roy handed out plastic bags to protect our belongings from the inevitable spray of the Atlantic waves.

Sitting on the bow of the boat, I felt the thrill of the open sea as we rode the waves back to Simpson Bay. The salty breeze and the rhythmic motion of the boat were a fitting end to a day filled with adventure and discovery. Reflecting on the experience, I couldn’t help but agree with my fellow passengers: this was, without a doubt, the best boat day ever.
