Londorossi Gate - Altitude gained: 396m
The Northern Circuit Route commences at Londorossi Gate (2,100 meters) in the West, sharing the same starting point as the Lemosho Route. The journey to Londorossi Gate takes about two hours from Moshi and significantly longer from Arusha. Registration with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities is completed at the gate, after which you will be driven further up the mountain to the trailhead starting point. Most tour operators provide lunch here before embarking on the short first-day trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,785 meters). You might be fortunate enough to spot large wildlife such as elephants and buffalo that occasionally emerge from the rainforest onto the path as you trek towards your first camp. Dinner will be served upon reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Distance: ~4.8km / 3 miles
Trekking time: 3-4 hours
Zone: Rainforest

Upon arrival at School Hut, an early dinner will be served, and you should rest as you will be awakened before midnight to begin your summit attempt. Ensure all your gear is prepared, including warm clothing, insulated water bottles, snacks, a headlamp, and a camera before going to bed.

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to bid farewell. The descent continues down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. As the weather is significantly warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy, and steep, so gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended.
From the gate, a vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (approximately 30 minutes). Enjoy a long-awaited hot shower, dinner, and celebrations!

The Northern Circuit path is hailed as one of Kilimanjaro’s prime routes, offering a near panoramic view of the mesmerizing scenery, especially the serene, seldom visited northern slopes. It is the longest route on Kilimanjaro, hence it provides the ideal time for acclimatization and boasts the greatest summit success rate, making it a highly advocated route.
The route begins from the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro and starts with a lengthy drive from Moshi to the Londorossi Gate. The initial two days are spent navigating through the rainforest to reach Shira Ridge, followed by crossing the expansive Shira Plateau. Following this, the path veers north and moves in a clockwise direction from Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp and then, School Hut before reaching the summit from the eastern side.
