The Trincomalee beach, noted as one of the world’s natural top-tier deepwater harbours, features attractions such as Fort Fredrick, a perfect paragon of British Empire architecture that still stands today. Within it, you’ll find the popular Lovers leap rock. The ‘Koneshwaram’ Hindu Kovil is also a must-visit—it’s one of the island’s oldest Hindu Kovils. Trincomalee’s beaches are wide, pristine, and possess crystal clear waters. The renowned and unmissable Marble Beach lies within Trincomalee. Also noteworthy is the “Nilaweli” beach, home to the well-known Pigeon Island. The island’s surrounding corals make it an excellent snorkelling spot. Just 2 km offshore lie the red rocks, which are accessible by a small boat. The city, situated on a headland, organically guards the gigantic harbour behind it and serves as Sri Lanka Navy’s station. Venture into a snorkelling adventure in the crystal clear water, partake in whale watching across the bay or try out kite surfing. Don’t forget to explore Pigeon Island while snorkelling.
