• Sigiriya: The Ancient Rock Fortress - Also known as the Lion’s Rock, Sigiriya is a rock fortress and palace situated in Sri Lanka’s Matale district. This historical site is encircled by gardens, ponds, and various structures. Constructed by King Kassapa, Sigiriya is recognized as a World Heritage site and is the best-preserved city center in Asia.
• Kaudulla National Park - With over 26 national parks, Sri Lanka offers exciting safari experiences, and Kaudulla National Park is among the top spots to observe elephants. Home to over 200 elephants, monkeys, crocodiles, and a few leopards, the park opened in 2002. • Pidurangala Rock - While Sigiriya Rock is steeped in history with features like the lion’s paw and mirror wall, Pidurangala Rock offers a more natural ambiance and also houses a temple. Located next to Sigiriya Rock, Pidurangala provides the best vantage point for viewing Sigiriya Rock, being only slightly lower. It is a favored spot for sunrise, offering 360-degree views of the valleys and Sigiriya Rock. Travelers often enjoy sunrise at Pidurangala and then head to Sigiriya Rock for sunset.
• Trincomalee - Renowned as one of the world’s finest natural deepwater harbors, Trincomalee is located on Sri Lanka’s eastern coast, about 245 km from Colombo. Historically known as “Gokanna,” it attracted notable sea travelers like Marco Polo and Ptolemy. The British fortified it with Fort Fredrick, which still stands with its cannons. Inside the fort is the famous Swami Rock (Lovers Leap) and the ancient Hindu Kovil, Koneswaran. The area’s beaches are wide with crystal-clear waters, and Marble Beach is a must-visit.
