Day 1: Arrival & Journey to Sigiriya Lion’s Rock / Elephant Safari in Habarana (Overnight Stay in Sigiriya)
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - This remarkable fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. Constructed by the fifth-century ruler King Kashyapa I of the Sinhalese Moriya dynasty, Sigiriya served as the capital of the Sinhalese kingdom until Kashyapa’s defeat in A.D. 495. The ancient palace, perched atop the rock, is encircled by stunning gardens and water features, with its construction techniques remaining a mystery.
Sigiriya Museum - The museum offers an educational experience, providing extensive background information. It features photographic galleries of the excavations conducted at the Sigiriya fortress rock. Each gallery offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the cultural heritage of Sigiriya rock. The museum, designed around large trees, exemplifies Sri Lankan green building technology and is surrounded by natural water springs. It consists of three levels, designed to reflect the standards of the rock.
Hurulu Eco Park - The Hurulu Eco Park Wildlife Safari offers an exceptional safari experience in a renowned Elephant Paradise in Sri Lanka! The Hurulu Forest Reserve was designated a biosphere reserve in January 1977. Day 2: Pidurangala and Dambulla and Drive to Kandy (Overnight Stay in Kandy)
Pidurangala Rock - Climbing Pidurangala Rock is a must-do when visiting Sri Lanka. At the entrance is a Buddhist temple, and near the summit, a shallow cave temple houses a magnificent 12.5-meter-long reclining Buddha statue. From the top of Pidurangala, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views over the jungle and Sigiriya Rock.
Golden Temple of Dambulla - The Dambulla cave temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a World Heritage Site located in central Sri Lanka. This sacred pilgrimage site has been revered for 22 centuries. The cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest and best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings and 157 statues are of particular significance.
Jathika Namal Uyana - National Namal Uyana is renowned for its historical significance and is a popular tourist destination. Its status as a human sanctuary, along with its biodiversity and geographical features, adds to its value. Visitors can see small waterfalls and large Na trees. The 105-acre area includes the pink Thiruvana mountain range, estimated to be 500 million years old, with seven mountains. This range is situated between 180 and 300 meters above sea level. Historical accounts suggest that pink Thiruvana was sourced from this range for the construction of the Taj Mahal in India. A rock in Namal Uyana and a stream from Mount Rose Thiruvana flow into a stone basin.
Ranweli Spice Garden - Located in Matale, Sri Lanka, Ranweli Spice Garden offers the finest spices. Visitors can purchase spices online, eliminating the need to shop around. A visit provides an opportunity to learn about spices.
Day 4: Temple of the Tooth/Peradeniya Botanical Garden/Tea Fields & Factory/Ramboda Waterfall
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple and former palace located in the royal palace complex of the ancient Kingdom of Kandy, Sri Lanka. This sacred site is a major tourist attraction in Kandy.
Royal Botanical Gardens - Situated in Peradeniya, approximately 5.5 km west of Kandy, the Royal Botanic Gardens boast thousands of plants and stunning gardens with breathtaking views in the Hanthana biodiversity area, near the Mahaweli River. The garden is famous for its orchid collection.
Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden - Damro plantation spans 5,000 hectares of lush tea plantations across Sri Lanka’s major tea-growing regions, from the low-lying valleys of Sabaragamuwa to the central hills. Within these well-maintained tea gardens, 12 factories produce a variety of Ceylon’s finest teas, catering to both local and international markets.
Kandy Lake - Also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, Kandy Lake was constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over time, its size has been reduced. Fishing is prohibited in this protected lake, which enhances the scenic beauty and cool atmosphere of Kandy city, primarily built around the lake.
Ramboda Waterfall - Ramboda Falls stands at 109 meters high, making it the eleventh tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 729th tallest in the world.
