It is one of the largest and most renowned castles in Albania. The castle boasts a captivating history linked to one of Albania’s most beautiful legends. Archaeological excavations have uncovered artifacts dating from the early Bronze Age to the present day. Within its impressive defensive walls, visitors can find the Church of St. Stephen, several Venetian administrative buildings, and some medieval rooms.
- Shkodra Lake - Shkodra Lake, located on the border between Montenegro and Albania, was once a sea bay that became isolated from the Adriatic Sea when sea levels fell thousands of years ago. It is the largest lake in the Balkans, stretching 41 km in length and covering an area between 370-530 km². With depths reaching up to 60 meters, the lake’s bottom lies well below sea level, classifying it as a crypto depression. Shkodra Lake is one of Europe’s largest bird reserves, home to around 240 bird species, including some of the last pelicans in Europe, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers.
- St Stephen’s Catholic Cathedral (Shkoder Cathedral) - This is one of the largest Catholic cathedrals in the Balkans, dedicated to St. Stephen. After its reconstruction in 1991, the cathedral was inaugurated by Mother Teresa, and two years later, it was visited by Pope John Paul II. Inside the cathedral is a replica of the Turin Shroud.

Shkodra Lake - I was expecting some contact from the tour company on the day before the tour but I didn’t get any messages. I sent them a message in the evening on WhatsApp, which they did reply to and I got the guide details later that night. Olsi was my guide to skhodra and the lakes. It was a great tour, but unfortunately the weather was not so good in the afternoon. However, this did not dampen our spirits. We talked about lots of current things, as well as history. I enjoyed the day very much. He also gave some really good advice on other places to visit. I would recommend this tour.
