So glad we booked this tour. Fuma was awesome! - We knew that Shinjuku on a weekend was going to be a little overwhelming. So we decided to book a private tour and let someone who knew the city show us around a bit. Our guide, Fuma, absolutely delivered! We loved dining (and drinking) at all these places that were obviously popular among locals - places that we’d never have gone in by ourselves. He was super accommodating and planned the tour to match the pace we wanted. Overall, it was an amazing experience and we would not hesitate to recommend Fuma to any Shinjuku newbie!!!

Authentic Cultural Experience - We had such an amazing experience with Lisa, our tour guide! We would never have been able to find the hidden gems that she introduced us to. We experienced authentic Japanese food and culture. She also shared her own upbringing as well as many cultural nuances that were new to us. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for an experience that is off the beaten path.

Tour of a few food establishments - Fuma was our guide. He took us to a few different food places, and a couple of other establishments like capsule arcades, shared info on the culture of the city, and openly answered our questions. Wonderful experience overall.

Amazing night! - Fuma was a very friendly and professional guide. He was above and beyond showing us around in Shinjuku. All 3 restaurants we met were quite good with delicious food.

Great food, fun experience, guide accommodated us well - Yota was extremely kind and helpful. He guided us to an okonomiyaki grill, a yummy chicken skewer place, and a sweet pastry shop. He also offered and helped us navigate the public transit system. We were heavily jetlagged at the time of the tour and were more interested in quicker, smaller samplings from different shops. Yota had initially planned for us to have a few sit down experiences to go later into the evening. He pivoted to adjust to our needs.

A must tour for everyone! - My daughter and l did the food walking tour around Shinjuku with Fuma. After coming to Japan 3 times, this would have to have been the best thing l have done by far. The food was fantastic, the adventures were amazing and Fuma was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this tour.

Meh - Really cool spots - places we would have never found on our own. Kosuke was very friendly and nice. We would have liked to learn a bit more and the price was steep considering we had to pay for our own food at the second and third stop.

Disappointing tour, skipped the Arcade, snack bar, Golden Gai and memory lane. - Unfortunately, this was a disappointing and frustrating experience. Our guide was Fuma. The first stop at a nice authentic restaurant for Japanese savory pancakes was very good. After that, the Tour went downhill. We walked by a Godzilla figure, but did not walk through Golden Gai, our guide did not explain anything about Japanese nightlife. We walked past Memory Lane, which I recognized from the previous visit. I asked the guide if we were going through it and he said no. This experience is clearly on the itinerary with allotted time of 40 minutes. He wasn’t willing to dedicate even five minutes to this. The second restaurant stop for grilled skewers was fine, again absolutely no explanation about Japanese cuisine, food culture, traditions or anything that could be interesting. The guide decided to skip the Arcade, and literally said it’s not a big deal. The third stop was Sake tasting. I told him that we were excited for Sake tasting and the unlimited Japanese snacks bar. He was surprised about the snacks and said he didn’t think that had any snacks. I had booked this tour specifically after discussing it with my family because of the Arcade and a Japanese snack bar which everybody was interested in. I of course also wanted everyone to take a walk down Memory Lane and see Golden Gai area. Once we got to the Sake place, I pulled out the Viator description of the tour and pointed out to our guide that we were missing most of the attractions that were specifically listed as included. He tried arguing with me saying they were all optional then got on the phone with his boss, after which he reluctantly walked his back to the memory lane and to the Arcade. We never made it to the place with Sake tasting and the snack bar or the Golden Gai The entire time towards the end of the tour, the guide didn’t even talk to us for a second. I think he was frustrated and hopefully embarrassed after talking to his boss. I shouldn’t be giving this tour even two stars, that’s way too generous.
