Baku Old City - The tour begins at the main entrance of the Old City, known as the Double Gates. During the tour, visitors will see the Chain, Sailor, and Cat Houses, Bukhara and Multani Caravanserais, Juma Mosque, and Maiden Tower. The guide will share the history of the Old City and its notable buildings. Shirvanshah Palace, a gem of Azerbaijan’s architectural heritage, was the former residence of the Shirvan rulers, located in the heart of Baku. The beautiful complex includes the Divan-Khan courtyard, a tomb, a mosque from 1441, a bathhouse, and the mausoleum of court scholar Seyid Yahya Bakuvi. The Bukhara caravanserai, built in the late 15th century along the trade route of Icherisheher in Baku, has a quadratic shape with a prominent portal and an octagonal yard. The caravanserai is surrounded by balconies and private chapels along the perimeter. The octagonal yard served as a gathering hall under the open sky for travelers and merchants after daily trade activities. The crossing arch, integrated into the overall style along the yard’s perimeter, forms the main part of the architectural composition. Restoration in 1964 removed later additions, revealing the caravanserai’s grand structure against the surrounding buildings. Maiden Tower, Baku’s Eiffel Tower, was used as a fortress by the Shirvanshahs in the 12th century for defense. Its architectural plan, seemingly simple, features walls that are extraordinarily thick at the base, starting at five meters deep and narrowing to four meters at the top. Today, the interior hosts an intriguing display of old photographs and a souvenir shop, with the highlight being the superb rooftop viewpoint offering a panoramic view of Baku Bay and the Old City. The views from the top are worth the climb, providing a sweeping panorama of the Old City, the new skyscrapers on the hills, and the Caspian Sea.
Baku Boulevard - For orientation, the tour starts in Highland Park, offering sweeping panoramas of the city and Baku Bay. This is the best spot for photographing Baku’s 21st-century icons, the astonishing trio of sinuous skyscrapers, aptly nicknamed the ‘Flame Towers’. The tour concludes at Baku Seaside Boulevard, passing by Little Venice with its emerald green waters, bridges, Venetian-inspired colonnades, and the unique Carpet Museum. The Azerbaijan Carpet Museum showcases different schools and techniques from across the country, covering various historical states and the development of carpet weaving. The excursion continues with a visit to the Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev.
Highland Park - The first stop on the tour is Highland Park, the highest point in Baku. From the park, visitors can see a panorama of the city, including major buildings like the Flame Towers, Parliament Building, State TV Channel Building and Broadcast Tower, Martyrs’ Lane, Crystal Hall, National Flag Square, and more. Visitors will walk through Martyrs’ Lane to the stairs known as “40 Stairs,” where the driver will pick them up.
Nizami Street / Tarqovi - The final stop on the Baku city tour is Nizami Street. Visitors will have 15-20 minutes to walk and admire the beauty of Baku’s most central street, filled with shops and delightful restaurants. They will also see Fountain Square, adorned with magical fountains.
Ateshgah - Fire Temple - At the Fire Temple, visitors will discover why Azerbaijan is called the land of fire by visiting the 17th-century fire temple, Ateshgah. The driver and guide will pick up guests from the hotel at a specified time and drive directly to the Fire Temple. The temple is located in the southeastern part of the Surakhani settlement on the Absheron peninsula, 30 km from Baku. Ateshgah is a fire temple built in the 17th-18th centuries at the site of natural gas’s eternal flames. The earliest building of the temple dates back to 1713, and the central temple was constructed in 1810 with funds from merchant Kanchanagara. It was sanctified by Zoroastrians, Hindus, and Sikhs at different times.
Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - After visiting the Fire Temple, the last destination is the Fire Mountain, Yanar Dag. This natural burning flame results from natural gas emerging at the hill’s base. The hill has been burning for approximately 4 millennia, even during rain and snow, with gas roots extending to the Caspian Sea. Yanar Dag is located 25 km north of Baku, in Mehemmedi village. Since 2007, Yanar Dag has been declared a state-protected conservation area.
Gabala Tour
Juma Mosque - On the way from Baku to Gabala, the tour visits Juma Mosque in Shamakhi (or Friday Mosque), a popular tourist attraction. It is included in the Shamakhi and Gabala tour. Unlike many mosques, entrance to Juma Mosque of Shamakhi is permitted even to non-Muslims. Visitors must remove their shoes to enter, but walking barefoot is not an issue as the floor is covered with thick carpets. Additionally, women must cover their heads to enter the mosque, and free head coverings are provided at the entrance, which must be returned upon exit.
Seven Beauties Waterfall - This mountainous waterfall flows from the highest peaks of the Caucasus Mountains and is located in Vandam village of Gabala. The name Seven Beauties (Yeddi Gozal) Waterfall comes from the seven mountain roads that must be traversed to reach the waterfall. The waterfall is completely frozen in winter, making access more challenging. However, in spring and summer, tea houses are available on every mountain road, offering guests a tea set with traditional types of Gabala jam. At the highest point of the waterfall, there is a tea house with a special wooden mattress where visitors can enjoy tea with the pleasant sound and scenery of the waterfall in the background. The tea water is sourced from the waterfall, giving it a unique taste.
Nohur Gol - Nohur Lake, located near the Gabala-Ismayilli-Baku motorway, is a natural attraction in Azerbaijan visited by international and local tourists. It is situated 5 km east of Gabala city, about 200 km from Baku. The lake is surrounded by the mountains Yumuru, Goydag, and Gulluburun. Currently, Nohur Lake is 1925 m long, 1355 m wide, and covers a total area of 240 ha. Its maximum depth reaches 24 m, and the water volume is about 16 million m3. It is situated 700 meters above sea level.
Tufandag Mountain Resort - Tufandag Winter-Summer Tourist Complex is located 4 kilometers from Gabala city. The resort offers visitors the chance to enjoy various extreme sports and tourism activities in harmony with nature. Tufandag complex provides skiing in winter, cable car rides up the mountains in summer, mountain climbing with ATV quad bikes, and other entertainment options. The ski slopes of the Tufandag complex offer unforgettable moments with a 1000-meter vertical downhill, 15-kilometer ski slopes, and 4 rope lines. There are green and blue ski slopes for beginners and moderate skiers, and red and black ski slopes for professional skiers. Along with natural snow, snowmobiles provide an unforgettable skiing experience on snow-covered slopes throughout the season. Skiing equipment can be rented at the resort’s skiing center, and ski lessons from professional instructors are available.
