Baku City Tour
Baku Old City - The tour begins at the main entrance of Icheri Sheher (Old City), known as the Double Gates. During the tour, visitors will see the Chain, Sailor, and Cat Houses, Bukhara and Multani Caravanserais, Juma Mosque, and Maiden Tower.
Palace of the Shirvanshahs - The Shirvanshah Palace, a gem of Azerbaijan’s architectural heritage, was the former residence of the Shirvan rulers, located in the heart of Baku. The stunning complex includes the Divan-Khan courtyard, a tomb, a mosque from 1441, as well as a bathhouse and the mausoleum of court scholar Seyid Yahya Bakuvi.
Bukhara Caravanserai - Constructed in the late 15th century over the trade route of Icherisheher in Baku, the Bukhara caravanserai has a square shape with a prominent portal and an octagonal courtyard. The caravanserai is surrounded by balconies and private premises, such as chapels, along the perimeter. The octagonal courtyard served as a special open-air hall where travelers and merchants gathered after daily trade activities. The crossing arch, in a consistent style, spans the entire perimeter of the courtyard, forming the main part of the architectural composition. Restoration work in 1964 removed later additions, revealing the caravanserai’s large-scale structure against the backdrop of surrounding buildings.
Maiden Tower - Often compared to the Eiffel Tower of Baku, the Maiden Tower was used as a fortress by the Shirvanshahs in the 12th century for defense. Its seemingly simple architectural plan features extraordinarily thick walls at the base, starting at five meters deep and gradually narrowing to four meters at the top. Today, the interior hosts an intriguing display of old photographs and a souvenir shop, with the highlight being the superb rooftop viewpoint offering a panoramic view of Baku Bay and the Old City. The views from the top are worth the climb, providing a sweeping panorama of the Old City, the new skyscrapers on the hills, and the Caspian Sea.
Baku Boulevard - Baku Boulevard, also known as the National Seaside Park in Baku, Azerbaijan, is a favorite promenade for many city residents and visitors, and is the second largest in Europe after the park along the River Seine in Paris. Its history dates back over 100 years, to a time when Baku’s oil barons built their mansions along the Caspian shore, gradually developing the seafront. Today, the National Seaside Park in Baku covers an area of 3,750 meters and is located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. It begins at the National Flag Square and ends at Freedom Square. The Boulevard area includes several museums, cultural facilities, malls, and entertainment centers, including the modern panoramic amusement ride – the Devil’s Wheel, which offers a beautiful view over Baku Bay.
Dagustu Park (Upland Park) - Upland (Dagustu) Park, also known as “Viewing Square,” and formerly in the Soviet era as “Sergei Kirov Park,” is one of the most popular places in Baku for walking, resting, and enjoying the sea view. Visitors can relax by breathing fresh air, viewing the city, drinking tea at the Highland Park Café, and listening to classic lounge music. It’s the best place to unwind, located right in the heart of Baku. It is recommended to visit this park at night due to the amazing lighting on the stairs to the Highland Park. Additionally, on hot summer days and nights, it offers a cool and slightly windy atmosphere.
Gobustan Rock Reserve & Mud Volcano
Gobustan Rock Art - The tour begins with a car picking guests up from the hotel. The first destination is Gobustan, an archaeological monument located 56 km from Baku. Artifacts and rock carvings were discovered between 1939 and 1940. Researchers have recorded over 3,500 human and animal paintings and various markings – petroglyphs, and identified 20 suburban shelters in this area. Mesolithic monuments (medieval stone) are prominently displayed in the reserve. There are many caves and springs, with carvings by primitive men on the walls of caves, rocks, and stony lumps. Visitors will explore the Gobustan Museum to gain better insights into the area’s history before heading by car to the Rock Mountain to see the actual carvings.
Mud Volcanoes - After visiting Rock Mountain, guests will visit the Mud Volcanoes. Transportation will switch to Soviet Lada Cars. Those interested can bring strong plastic bags to collect some mud, which is said to be beneficial for the skin. After spending 10 minutes around the volcanoes, guests will be transferred back to their car.
Bibi-Heybat Mosque - The Bibi-Heybat Mosque houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum (a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad) and serves as a spiritual center for Muslims in the region. It is one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. Locally known as “the mosque of Fatima,” Alexandre Dumas described the mosque during his visit in the 1840s using the same name. The old mosque was located in the southern part of the tomb, with a 20-meter high minaret in the west part. Later, a crypt and two niches were added to the mosque south of the minaret. The niches contain inscriptions with the name Fatali Khan, whose tombstone marble slab is now in the State Museum of History.
Shamakhi - Gabala Tour
Juma Mosque - On the way from Baku to Gabala, visitors will stop at Juma Mosque in Shamakhi (or Friday Mosque), a popular tourist attraction. Unlike many mosques, entrance to Juma Mosque of Shamakhi is allowed even for non-Muslims. Visitors must remove their shoes to enter, but walking barefoot is comfortable as the floor is covered with thick carpets. Additionally, women must cover their heads to enter the mosque, and free head coverings are provided at the entrance, which must be returned upon exit.
Diri Baba Mausoleum - The Diri Baba Mausoleum stands in a square located on a cliff. The two-story building features a hall on the first floor, with a passageway to an octahedral cupola from a small vestibule. Stairs carved into the cliff lead to the hall on the second floor. A spherical cupola with a pointed top has squinches decorated with plant ornaments. The architecture of the Diri Baba Mausoleum harmoniously fits into the picturesque surroundings of the building, offering a view against the backdrop of rocks and tree greenery. The mausoleum is a masterpiece of the Shirvan architectural school and a beautiful creation of ancient masters’ arts. The monument is protected by the government.
Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum - At the foot of Gulistan Fortress lies the Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum or “Seven Domes,” named after the number of gravestones in the crypt. This is where notable representatives of the Shirvan Dynasty were buried. Today, the gravestones resemble half-destroyed stone domes, appearing to emerge from the ground in the middle of a deserted graveyard, creating a slightly mysterious atmosphere.
Nohur Lake - Visitors can relax near the enchanting Nohur Lake in Gabala.
Yeddi Gozel Waterfall - The “Yeddi Gozel” waterfall is located 4 km from the center of Gabala city, in the settlement of Vendam in the Gabala district. It is situated on the edge of the Oguz-Gabala highway.
Tufandag Mountain Resort - Visitors will have the opportunity to ride the cable car.
