Baku & Absheron Peninsula Tour
Highland Park - The tour begins at Highland Park, the highest point in Baku. From here, guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, including major landmarks such as the Flame Towers, Parliament Building, State TV Channel Building and Broadcast Tower, Martyrs’ Lane, Crystal Hall, National Flag Square, and more. Guests will walk through Martyrs’ Lane to the “40 Stairs,” where the driver will pick them up.
Baku Old City - The tour continues to the Double Gates, marking the start of the Old City Walking Tour. From the Double Gates, guests will see the Chain, Sailor, and Cat Houses, Bukhara & Multani Caravanserais, Juma Mosque, and Maiden Tower.
Maiden Tower - Guests will visit the Maiden Tower, a former symbol of Baku city. Constructed in two phases, the first part was built in the 6th century BC and served as a temple for fire worshipers. The second part was completed in the 12th century by Shirvanshah 2nd Akhsitan. In 2001, along with the Shirvanshahs’ Palace, the Maiden Tower was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments.
Multani Caravanserai - Established in the 14th century, this caravanserai is located opposite the Bukhara Caravanserai. It was built to accommodate merchants from the medieval city of Multan (now in Pakistan) who visited the region for trade. Zoroastrians, who are believed to have erected the Ateshgah Temple in Surakhani, were among these merchants.
Bukhara Caravanserai - Constructed in the late 15th century along a trade route passing through the Shamakhi Gates of the fortress, it is near the Maiden Tower. The caravanserai served as a hotel, primarily for merchants from Central Asia.
Palace of the Shirvanshahs - The next stop in the Old City is the Shirvanshahs’ Palace. Within the complex, guests will visit the Main Building of the Palace, Palace Mosque, Divankhana, the Mausoleum of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, Family Mausoleum, a Portal in the east, Murad’s gate, a Reservoir, and the remnants of a Bath House. In the 15th century, the Shirvanshah dynasty, under Ibrahim I of Shirvan, moved the capital from Shamakhi to Baku after a devastating earthquake. The palace is believed to be a memorial complex built around the sacred place of worship (pir) and tomb of Seyyid Yaxya Bakuvi, a Helwati Sufi. The Shirvanshahs were patrons of the Helwati Sufiye order, and Shirvanshah Khalilullah I was buried with his family in the palace grounds, in the Family Mausoleum.
Nizami Street - Guests will then visit Fountain Square and the renowned Nizami Street, a wide pedestrian and shopping street in the city center, named after the famous classical Azerbaijani poet, Nizami Ganjavi.
Ateshgah - Fire Temple - The tour continues with the Absheron Peninsula Tour. The guide will share the intriguing history of Baku Boulevard and its connection to the Oil Barons. The Fire Temple is situated in the southeastern part of the Surakhani settlement on the Absheron Peninsula, 30 km from Baku.
Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Known as Fire Mountain, this natural burning flame is the result of natural gas emerging at the foot of the hill. The hill has been burning continuously for approximately 4,000 years, even during rain and snow.
Gabala Tour
Diri Baba Mausoleum - The mausoleum is described in the diaries of K. de Bryuin and A. Oleariy, as well as in a work by B. Dorn. It stands in a square on a glyptic cliff and is two-storied. The first floor has a hall covered with an ogive, leading to an octahedral cupola from a small vestibule. Stairs carved into the cliff lead to the second-floor hall. A spherical cupola with a pointed top features squinches decorated with plant ornaments.
Juma Mosque - The mosque’s construction dates back to the governance period of the Caliphate’s vicar in the Caucasus and Dagestan, Arabic commander Maslam ibn Abd-al Melik, brother of Umayyad caliph Valil I (705-715), who chose Shamakhi as his residence. During this time, Arab governors fortified the ancient city with rich cultural heritage and began constructing new structures. The architectural grandeur of Juma Mosque reflects the importance Arabs placed on Shamakhi.
Nohur Lake - Guests will visit the enchanting Nohur Lake, located near the village of Nohurqishlag. The serene atmosphere and bird songs create an ideal environment for relaxation.
Yeddi Gozel Waterfall - The tour proceeds to the “Eddi Gozal Waterfall” or Seven Beautiful Waterfall, located in Vandam Village of Gabala.
Tufandag Mountain Resort - The tour continues to Tufandag Mountain Resort, located 4 km from Gabala City. Adventure enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy the Cable Car at the resort.
Gobustan
Gobustan Rock Art - En route to Gobustan, guests will see a landscape filled with oil rigs that supplied the USSR with oil for over 70 years. The first stop is the Gobustan Museum, offering insights into the area’s history. The archaeological monument is located 56 km from Baku. Discovered in 1939-1940, the site contains over 3,500 human and animal paintings and various markings, known as petroglyphs, and 20 suburban shelters have been identified. Mesolithic monuments are prominently displayed in the reserve, with many caves and springs carved by primitive men on cave walls, rocks, and stone formations.
Mud Volcano - The tour continues to the Mud Volcanoes, located near Gobustan National Museum. Azerbaijan is home to the largest number of mud volcanoes in the world, with about 300 found onshore, offshore, and on islands. Guests will have the chance to see these fascinating active volcanoes up close. After spending 15 minutes around the volcanoes, guests will be transferred back to their vehicle.
Bibi-Heybat Mosque - The Bibi-Heybat Mosque houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, and serves as a spiritual center for Muslims in the region. It is one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. Locally known as “the mosque of Fatima,” Alexandre Dumas described it during his visit in the 1840s. The old mosque was situated in the southern part of the tomb, with a 20-meter high minaret to the west. Later, a crypt and two niches were added to the mosque south of the minaret. The niches contain inscriptions with the name Fatali Khan, whose tombstone marble slab is now in the State Museum of History.
