Fuxing Park, also known as Gujiazhai Park, is a distinctive park in Shanghai that retains a French classic style, characterized by its plaids and patterns. It remains popular for morning exercises among seniors. Visitors will experience the vibrant life of retirees.
- Former French Concession - Renowned for its tree-lined boulevards, the former French Concession is a chic neighborhood featuring a delightful blend of Chinese and European architecture. Guests can explore quiet alleyways on a leisurely walk and enjoy the area’s shopping, dining, and entertainment. The tour includes a stroll along Sinan Road and a visit to Shanghai Zhougong Mansion. This Spanish-style garden building at No.73, Sinan Road, was once the residence and workplace of Zhou Enlai, the former Chinese premier, in 1946. The mansion is well-preserved, allowing visitors to see the room layout and replicated furniture and work items from that era.
Following this, the tour continues through other areas of the Former French Concession.
- Xintiandi - Xintiandi is a tourist hotspot that preserves Shanghai’s historical and cultural features while integrating Chinese and Western cultures. It is divided into northern and southern sections, with the south featuring modern architecture and the north showcasing Shikumen old buildings. This blend of Shikumen and modern styles has transformed Xintiandi into a trendy pedestrian street in the city’s heart. Outdoor cafes, bars, and romantic restaurants are abundant.
The tour will then visit the Shikumen Museum to learn about the living spaces and lifestyle of Shanghai residents from that time.
- Shikumen Museum, Shanghai - This museum is housed in an old Shikumen house built in the 1920s, which has been preserved and renovated. Modeled after a 1920s household, the museum features seven main exhibition rooms: the guest room, study room, old people’s room, master room, daughter room, pavilion room, and oven room. The story of a Shikumen family is woven throughout the visit, showcasing the unique Shikumen architectural culture of Shanghai and recreating the living spaces and lifestyle of its residents from that era.
Next, the tour will visit the mysterious Jade Buddha Temple.
- Jade Buddha Temple - The Jade Buddha Temple is an active monastery and one of Shanghai’s most popular temples. Visitors can admire the site’s two exquisite jade Buddhas and the extensive collection of statues, relics, and art. Despite its relatively short history, the temple’s classical architectural style makes it unique and unmatched in this modern city. The Jade Buddha Temple offers a peaceful and transcendent atmosphere, enriching the busy modern society.
At noon, guests will enjoy vegetarian noodles for lunch at the Jade Buddha Temple. In the afternoon, the tour will visit Lunxun Park and stroll along Duolun Road to see bronze statues of eminent writers.
- Lu Xun Memorial and Gravesite - Originally named Hongkou Park, it was renamed in 1956 to commemorate Lu Xun’s 75th birthday and the 20th anniversary of his death. The government relocated Lu Xun’s tomb here and erected a statue in his memory. The Lu Xun Memorial Hall was also established that year, making the park a place of remembrance. The Lu Xun Tomb area covers about 1600 square meters, with words by Mao Zedong inscribed on the tombstone: “the tomb of Lu Xun.” A bronze statue of Lu Xun stands in the grass in front of the tomb, evoking respect from all visitors.
- Shanghai Duolun Road Cultural Celebrities Street - Previously known as Darroch Road after a British missionary, Duolun Road is a small part of Shanghai that transports visitors to a bygone era when Chinese literati and social elites were influential in shaping the country’s culture. Now a pedestrian street, it was home to many famous writers, artists, poets, and social workers throughout the 1900s. Notable figures like Ding Ling, Rou Shi, and Mao Dun lived in various parts of this street and area.
Hong De Tang Church is a grand structure on this street, attracting attention with its rare architectural style, possibly the only one of its kind in the city. The Christian church is built with Chinese architectural elements, and visitors might witness a wedding shoot if they’re lucky.
The tour will then transfer to the Bund to admire the 26 diverse buildings of different architectural styles along the Bund.
- The Bund - The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases the city’s charm as a bustling metropolis that combines a century-old history with a flourishing future, making the Bund a must-see attraction. Visitors will see the 26 diverse buildings of various architectural styles at the Bund, including the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. The tour will also appreciate the skyscrapers across the Huangpu River.
- The Bund City Sculptures - The tour will view the Bund City Sculptures, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Huangpu Park, and Waibaidu Bridge.
Afterwards, guests will enjoy a comfortable transfer back to their hotel, wrapping up their memories and saying goodbye at the hotel.
