The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases the vibrant blend of Shanghai’s century-old history and its promising future, making it a must-visit destination. Visitors will admire 26 diverse buildings of various architectural styles, including the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. The skyscrapers across the Huangpu River are also a sight to behold.
-
Yuyuan Old Street - Historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, Shanghai Old Street is a historic business street that combines tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the city’s traditional culture and experience the authentic life of the Shanghainese. Visitors will stroll along Yuyuan Old Street and explore a classical garden.
-
Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Later, the tour will continue to Yu Garden, initially constructed in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a retreat for his father, Minister Pan En, in his later years. Pan Yunduan began the project after not passing an imperial exam, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan delayed construction for nearly two decades until 1577. Despite its small size, Yu Garden encompasses all the elements of a classical Chinese garden, including pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with distinct features. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own unique style.
Next, the tour will proceed to M50 Creative Park.
-
M50 Creative Park - Situated in the distinctive industrial buildings of a former textile mill, M50 Creative Park hosts a significant collection of contemporary art galleries, cafes, and craft shops. The galleries frequently change, with some tucked away upstairs alongside other creative businesses, making it an exciting place to explore. Noteworthy galleries include ShangART, which has two venues here, Chronos Art Centre, specializing in new media, and A+ and Antenna Space, which have created impressive exhibition spaces while preserving the buildings’ character.
-
Shanghai Jiangnan Silk Museum - After lunch, the tour will visit the Shanghai Silk Museum, which spans 6,000 square meters in the Huangpu District. The museum aims to promote the development of Chinese silk culture and industry. China is the world’s leading silk producer, with most of its silk derived from mulberry silkworms. The museum showcases the fascinating process of silkworm cultivation, an elegant silk exhibition hall, rich silk reeling production, and exquisite silk products.
Based on preferences, the guide will recommend a dining spot, ranging from a cozy local eatery to a fine dining restaurant.
The tour will then move to People’s Square to visit the Shanghai Museum and delve into the rich history and culture of Shanghai.
-
People’s Square - Located at the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square serves as the dividing point between East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. It is a bustling area for exploration. Before 1949, the site of People’s Square and People’s Park was a renowned horse racetrack, built in 1861 and known as the ‘No.1 Racetrack in the Far East.’ Visitors can still find remnants of the former main building in the northeast part of People’s Square. The area features many scenic spots, including the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
-
Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) - Situated in the center of Shanghai at People’s Square, the Shanghai Museum is a large museum dedicated to ancient Chinese art. Its design and presentation immerse visitors in artifacts that reflect ancient wisdom and philosophy. The museum’s round dome and square base symbolize the ancient concept of a round heaven and a square earth. It is divided into eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, covering major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities.
The tour will then head to Pudong to explore Shanghai’s financial district and visit the Shanghai Tower.
-
Pudong New Area - As a vibrant and modern district, Pudong offers visitors cutting-edge attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, all showcasing the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion. The group will walk along the Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers.
-
Shanghai Tower - The Shanghai Tower, a new landmark and the tallest building in Shanghai, stands at a height of 632 meters. The 118th floor features the world’s highest indoor observation deck, known as the ‘Top of Shanghai Observatory.’ Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition hall on floor B1 first, then take the express elevator to the 118th floor in just 55 seconds, with a speed of 18 meters per second. From here, a panoramic view of Shanghai can be enjoyed. There will be time to admire the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River from the 119th floor. If the weather permits, a stunning sunset may be visible.
Afterwards, the group will enjoy a comfortable transfer back to the hotel, wrapping up the day’s memories and bidding farewell at the hotel.
