- Pudong New Area - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 09:00 a.m. From there, the journey to Pudong New Area begins. Pudong is a vibrant district known for its modern attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping centers, all showcasing the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion. In just two decades, Pudong has transformed into one of the world’s most bustling and prosperous areas, thriving in global trade and finance, excelling in technology, and featuring some of the tallest skyscrapers globally, such as the Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower, and Jin Mao Tower. The group will stroll along Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers, and visit Shanghai Tower.
- Shanghai Tower - This iconic landmark is the tallest building in Shanghai, standing at 632 meters. The 118th floor houses the world’s highest indoor observation deck, known as the ‘Top of Shanghai Observatory.’ Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition hall on floor B1 before taking the express elevator to the 118th floor in just 55 seconds, reaching speeds of 18 meters per second. From here, enjoy a panoramic view of Shanghai and take time to admire the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River from the 119th floor.
Next, the group will head to the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum to uncover a lesser-known aspect of Shanghai’s history.
- Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum - This museum honors the Jewish refugees who found sanctuary in Shanghai during World War II, escaping the Holocaust in Europe. It showcases documents, photographs, films, and personal items that tell the stories of over 20,000 Jewish residents of the Restricted Sector for Stateless Refugees, also known as the Shanghai Ghetto, during the Japanese occupation. Important sites from that era include the Jewish Refugees Museum (formerly Ohel Moishe Synagogue), Huoshan Park, and Xiahai Temple. The knowledgeable guide will share insights about the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, discuss modern life in the historic neighborhood, and introduce local residents during this captivating tour.
The tour continues with a walk along Duolun Road to see life-size bronze statues of notable writers and Luxun Park.
-
Shanghai Duolun Road Cultural Celebrities Street - Formerly known as Darroch Road, named after a British missionary, this small part of Shanghai transports visitors to a time when Chinese literati and social elites were influential in shaping the country’s culture. Now a pedestrian street, it was home to many renowned writers, artists, poets, and social workers throughout the 1900s, including Ding Ling, Rou Shi, Mao Dun, and others.
Hong De Tang Church
This impressive church on the street is a rare architectural gem, possibly the only one of its kind in the city, drawing attention from passersby. The Christian church is built in Chinese architectural styles, and visitors might even witness a wedding photoshoot here. - Lu Xun Memorial and Gravesite - Originally named Hongkou Park, it was renamed in 1956 to commemorate Lu Xun’s 75th birthday and the 20th anniversary of his passing. The government relocated Lu Xun’s tomb here and erected a statue in his honor. The Lu Xun Memorial Hall was also established that year, making the park a place of remembrance. The area around Lu Xun’s Tomb spans about 1600 square meters, with words by Mao Zedong inscribed on the tombstone: “the tomb of Lu Xun.” A bronze statue of Lu Xun stands in the grass before the tomb, inspiring respect from all visitors.
The group will then proceed to Huanghe Road, a street filled with delightful eateries, perfect for a quick meal. Based on preferences, the guide will recommend a dining spot, ranging from a cozy local eatery to an elegant restaurant.
After lunch, the group will embark on a cruise to enjoy the scenic views along the Huangpu River.
- Huangpu River - The Huangpu River separates two iconic yet distinct Shanghai landscapes: the modern skyscrapers of Pudong and 26 diverse buildings of various architectural styles on the west side. A one-hour cruise along the Huangpu River will allow the group to appreciate the stunning views on both sides, including the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jin Mao Tower.
The tour will then move to Yuyuan Old Street to experience the authentic Shanghai lifestyle.
- Yuyuan Old Street - Historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, this old business street combines tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a glimpse into the city’s traditional culture and the real life of its residents. Visitors can walk to the Zigzag Nine Bend Bridge, which is believed to bring good luck due to the auspicious symbolism of the number nine. The bridge leads to the Mid-Lake Pavilion Teahouse, the oldest teahouse in Shanghai.
After completing all the activities in the itinerary, the group will return to the hotel, marking the end of the service.
