Xintiandi - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 9:00 a.m. From there, the group will head to the Former French Concession to admire the Sikumen-style old houses at Xintiandi.
Xintiandi is a popular tourist destination that preserves the historical and cultural essence of Shanghai, blending Chinese and Western cultures. It is divided into northern and southern sections. The southern part features modern architecture, while the northern part showcases Shikumen old buildings. This area, combining Shikumen and modern architectural styles, has become a trendy pedestrian street in the city’s heart. It represents the leisurely lifestyle of the city’s new generation. Outdoor cafes, bars, and romantic restaurants are abundant.
Next, the group will visit the Shikumen Museum to learn about the living spaces and lifestyle of Shanghai residents from that era.
- Shikumen Museum, Shanghai - This museum is housed in a preserved and renovated Shikumen house from the 1920s. It is modeled after a typical household from that time, featuring seven main exhibition rooms: the guest room, study room, old people’s room, master room, daughter room, pavilion room, and oven room. The museum tells the story of a Shikumen family, showcasing the unique architectural culture of Shanghai and recreating the living spaces and lifestyle of its people.
-
Former French Concession - The group will explore the Former French Concession area, visiting sites like Jinjiang Hotel, Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai, Moller Residence, and Cathay Cinema.
This stylish neighborhood is known for its tree-lined boulevards and a charming mix of Chinese and European architecture. Visitors can stroll through quiet alleyways, enjoy the botanical beauty of a French-style park, and admire the intricate facades of early 20th-century villas and apartments, discovering the famous figures who once lived there.
The tour will then proceed to one of Shanghai’s most famous temples, Jing’an Temple.
- Jing’an Temple - Located on West Nanjing Road in Shanghai’s bustling downtown, Jing’an Temple is a renowned temple offering a peaceful escape from the city’s crowds. Visitors can admire the marvelous paintings and calligraphy by Yangzhou’s Eight Eccentric Painters in the Exhibition Hall of Buddhist Relics. A notable feature of the temple is the bronze bell from the Ming Dynasty.
The group will then head to the China Art Museum to appreciate masterpieces by modern and contemporary Chinese artists.
- China Art Museum - This museum, transformed from the China Pavilion of the Expo 2010 Shanghai, is an upside-down red pyramid. The visit is worthwhile for the extravagant building and its city views. It showcases masterpieces by modern and contemporary Chinese artists, with numerous temporary exhibitions, including international touring shows. A highlight is the multimedia replica of the famous painting ‘Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival,’ vividly depicting life across social sectors from a thousand years ago.
The tour will continue to the Shanghai Expo 2010 site, a park offering various exhibits on Chinese culture. Based on preferences, the guide will recommend dining options, ranging from small local eateries to elegant restaurants.
The group will then transfer to the Lujiazui Financial District to admire Shanghai’s modern skyscrapers.
-
Pudong New Area - As a vibrant district, Pudong offers visitors modern attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, featuring the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion.
The group will walk along the Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers. -
Shanghai Tower - As Shanghai’s new landmark, this is the tallest building in the city, standing at 632 meters. The 118th floor houses the world’s highest indoor observation deck, known as the ‘Top of Shanghai Observatory.’ Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition hall on floor B1 before taking the express elevator to the 118th floor in just 55 seconds, reaching speeds of 18 meters per second. From here, visitors can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Shanghai and admire the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River from the 119th floor.
The group will visit Duoyun Books, the highest bookstore in China.
‘Duoyun Books’ flagship store is located on the 52nd floor of the Shanghai Tower, 239 meters above ground. Overlooking Shanghai, visitors can almost touch the sky while enjoying a ‘garden in the sky.’
With a design inspired by a Chinese landscape, the space features bookshelves shaped like mountains and is divided into seven areas, including sections for books, exhibitions, cultural events, and leisure.
The tour will then proceed along Duolun Road to visit life-size bronze statues of eminent writers and Luxun Park.
-
Shanghai Duolun Road Cultural Celebrities Street - Formerly known as Darroch Road after a British missionary, this small part of Shanghai transports visitors to a bygone era when Chinese literati and social elites were influential. Today, it is a pedestrian street that was home to many famous writers, artists, poets, and social workers throughout the 1900s. Notable figures like Ding Ling, Rou Shi, and Mao Dun lived in various parts of this street and area.
Hong De Tang Church
This grand church on the street is a rare architectural structure, possibly the only one of its kind in the city, attracting much attention from passers-by. The Christian church is built in Chinese architectural styles, and visitors might witness a wedding shoot if they are lucky. -
Lu Xun Memorial and Gravesite - Originally named Hongkou Park, it was renamed in 1956 to commemorate Lu Xun’s 75th birthday and the 20th anniversary of his death. The government moved Lu Xun’s tomb here and erected a statue in his memory, establishing the Lu Xun Memorial Hall the same year. These elements make the park a place of remembrance.
The park is named after the Lu Xun Memorial Hall and Lu Xun Tomb. The tomb area covers about 1600 square meters, with words by Mao Zedong inscribed on the tombstone: the tomb of Lu Xun. A bronze statue of Lu Xun stands in the grass in front of the tomb, evoking respect from all visitors.
After completing all the activities listed in the itinerary, the group will return to the hotel, marking the end of the service.
