- The Bund - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 9:00 a.m. From there, the group will travel to the Bund using public transportation. The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It beautifully showcases Shanghai’s allure as a bustling metropolis that blends a rich history with a vibrant future, making it a must-visit destination. Visitors will admire 26 diverse buildings of various architectural styles at the Bund, including the Peace Hotel, Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. Additionally, the impressive skyline across the Huangpu River can be appreciated.
- Waibaidu Bridge - Waibaidu Bridge is a romantic spot for couples and a popular filming location for TV series and movies, attracting those with a nostalgic affection for old Shanghai. This bridge is a landmark of old Shanghai, spanning the Suzhou Creek at its confluence with the Huangpu River. It is the city’s earliest and largest steel bridge, extending from north to south.
Following this, a cruise will be taken to enjoy the scenic views along the Huangpu River.
- Huangpu River - The Huangpu River separates two iconic yet distinct Shanghai landscapes: the modern skyscrapers of Pudong and the 26 diverse architectural buildings on the west side. A one-hour cruise along the Huangpu River will allow guests to enjoy the light show and stunning views on both sides, including the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jin Mao Tower.
- Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road) - Nanjing Road is known as the ‘No. 1 commercial street in China’ and has long been a city landmark. Stretching 5.5 kilometers, it features over 600 shops, attracting approximately 1.7 million visitors daily. Here, shoppers can find everything from unique and affordable souvenirs to luxurious global brands. The surrounding neighborhoods and the thinnest building can also be explored. The thinnest building on Ningbo Road, known as the Paper Building (纸片楼), was once highlighted by the British Daily Mail as possibly the world’s flattest and thinnest building. Viewed from a 30° angle, it resembles a piece of paper. The old house has four floors and is not entirely thin, taking the shape of a triangular polygon. This unique building still houses many residents.
- People’s Square - Located at the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square marks the division between East and West Nanjing Road. It is a vibrant area for exploration. Before 1949, the site of People’s Square and People’s Park was a renowned horse racetrack, built in 1861 and celebrated as the ‘No.1 Racetrack in the Far East.’ Visitors can still see the remnants of the former main building in the northeast part of People’s Square. Many attractions surround People’s Square, including the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
- Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) - Situated in People’s Square, the Shanghai Museum is a large institution dedicated to ancient Chinese art. Its design and exhibits immerse visitors in artifacts that reflect ancient wisdom and philosophy. The museum’s round dome and square base symbolize the ancient concept of a round heaven and a square earth. It features eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, covering major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities.
- Yuyuan Old Street - Historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, Shanghai Old Street is a historic commercial street that combines tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a glimpse into the city’s traditional culture and the everyday life of its residents. The visit will continue to Yu Garden, Shanghai’s largest ancient garden.
- Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - The tour will proceed to Yu Garden, initially constructed in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a gift for his father, Minister Pan En, in his later years. Pan Yunduan began the project after not passing an imperial exam, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan delayed construction until 1577. Although small, Yu Garden encompasses all the elements of a classical Chinese garden, with pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with distinct features. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own style.
- Tonghanchun Tangyuan Changcanhang - Established in 1783 during the Qing Dynasty, this traditional Chinese pharmacy is one of Shanghai’s four renowned traditional medicine stores. It maintains a traditional operating and decorative style. The architecture is both old and beautiful, offering an excellent opportunity to learn about traditional Chinese medicine.
- Former French Concession - Known for its tree-lined streets, the former French Concession is a stylish neighborhood with a charming blend of Chinese and European architecture. Visitors can explore quiet alleyways, enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment. The tour will include a stroll around the Former French Concession area, including Tianzifang and other architectural highlights.
- Tianzifang - Once an industrial area, Tianzifang is now a fashion landmark with numerous lanes. Walking through the old alleys reveals what early 20th-century Shanghai folk houses looked like, with dormer windows, red tiles, and green moss on the walls. The area is also home to many restaurants and fashion boutiques, making it a delightful spot for dining and shopping.
After the tour, the group will return to the hotel using public transportation. Cherish the memories and bid farewell at the hotel.
