- The Bund - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 08:30 a.m. From there, the group will be transferred to the Bund to begin the delightful Shanghai Private Tour. The Bund, a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River, is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases the city’s allure as a vibrant metropolis that blends a rich history with a promising future, making it a must-visit destination. Visitors will admire 26 diverse buildings of various architectural styles at the Bund, including the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. Additionally, the group can enjoy views of the skyscrapers across the Huangpu River.
- The Bund City Sculptures - The tour includes visits to the Bund City Sculptures, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Huangpu Park, and Waibaidu Bridge.
-
Heping Fandian - Also known as the Peace Hotel, Heping Fandian consists of the South Building and North Building.
South Building
This building features a brick veneer structure, with six stories reaching a height of 30 meters. Its exterior is designed in a Renaissance style. The architects emphasized color and completed the building in a locally interpreted Victorian Renaissance design.
North Building
Formerly known as Sassoon House, this building was constructed in 1929 and stands 77 meters tall. It prominently features straight lines on the exterior, with decorative patterns on pediments and eaves. Most of the building is faced with granite, while the ninth floor and roof are surfaced with terracotta. The eastern façade, facing the Huangpu River and the Bund, boasts a pyramidal roof with steep sides, reaching about 10 meters in height.
Next, the group will proceed to People’s Square to visit the Shanghai Museum and explore the rich history and culture of Shanghai.
- People’s Square (Renmin Guang Chang) - Located at the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square serves as the dividing point between East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. It is a bustling area for exploration. Before 1949, the site of People’s Square and People’s Park was a renowned horse racetrack, built in 1861 and celebrated as the ‘No.1 Racetrack in the Far East’. Visitors can still find remnants of the former main building in the northeast part of People’s Square. The tour will include many scenic spots around People’s Square, such as the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
- Shanghai Grand Theater - The group will admire the facade of the Shanghai Grand Theater. This theater is uniquely designed and beautifully shaped, blending Western and Chinese architectural styles seamlessly. The white arched vault complements the glass curtain walls, resembling a crystal palace.
- Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) - Situated in the center of Shanghai at People’s Square, the Shanghai Museum is a large museum dedicated to ancient Chinese art. Its style and presentation immerse visitors in artifacts that reflect ancient wisdom and philosophy. The exterior design, featuring a round dome and square base, symbolizes the ancient concept of a round heaven and a square earth. The museum is divided into eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, covering major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities.
Following this, the group will stroll along Yuyuan Old Street to experience the authentic Shanghai lifestyle and visit a classical garden.
- Yuyuan Old Street - Historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, Shanghai Old Street is a historic business street that combines tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial background stem from being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the city’s traditional culture and experience the genuine life of the Shanghainese. Based on preferences, the guide will recommend dining options at Yuyuan Old Street, ranging from small local eateries to elegant cuisine restaurants.
- Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Later, the group will explore Yu Garden, initially constructed in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, Minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan began the project after not passing an imperial exam, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan delayed construction for nearly twenty years until 1577. Yu Garden may be small, but it encompasses all the elements of a classical Chinese garden. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters each possess unique characteristics. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own distinct style.
Subsequently, the group will transfer to Pudong to explore Shanghai’s financial district and visit the Shanghai Tower.
- Shanghai Tower - As a new landmark of Shanghai, the Shanghai Tower stands as the tallest building in the city, reaching a total height of 632 meters. The 118th floor houses an indoor observation deck, the world’s highest indoor observation deck, known as the ‘Top of Shanghai Observatory’. Visitors are encouraged to first explore the exhibition hall on floor B1, then take the express elevator to the 118th floor in just 55 seconds, with a speed of 18 meters per second. From here, a bird’s-eye view of Shanghai can be enjoyed. There will be time to pause and admire the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River from the 119th floor.
Shanghai is recognized as one of the art capitals of Asia, if not the world. The tour will continue with visits to three representative art galleries: Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre, M50 Creative Park, and 1933 Old Millfun.
- Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre - This private museum is dedicated to collecting and displaying posters, featuring over 6,000 original propaganda posters from the 1940s to the 1990s. It covers the era of Chairman Mao and illustrates the political movements of the New China era. The museum was founded by Mr. Yang Pei Ming, who began collecting posters as a hobby in 1995.
- M50 Creative Park - Located in the distinctive industrial buildings of a former textile mill, M50 Creative Park hosts a significant collection of contemporary art galleries, cafes, and craft shops. The roster of galleries is dynamic, with some tucked away upstairs alongside other creative businesses, making it an exciting place to explore. Notable galleries include ShangART, which has two venues here, Chronos Art Centre, specializing in new media, and A+ and Antenna Space, which have created large and visually appealing exhibition environments while preserving the character of the buildings.
- 1933 Old Millfun - Originally built as a slaughterhouse in 1933 at the intersection of Hongkou Port and Shajing Port, not far from the Bund, 1933 Old Millfun, or 1933 Laochangfang in Chinese, has been transformed into a hub of creative art precincts. It has become a center for Shanghai’s fashion, design, shopping, and entertainment. Visitors can admire features such as Lattice Windows, Umbrella Columns, Covered Bridges, Central Atrium, and Sky Theater.
After completing all the activities listed in the itinerary, the group will return to the hotel, marking the end of the service.
