- Karvansaray - The “Caravanserai” historical complex in Sheki comprises two impressive caravanserais, known as “Yukhari” and “Ashaghi,” meaning “Upper” and “Lower” Caravanserai in Azerbaijani. These caravanserais date back to the 18th-19th centuries AD. The “Lower” caravanserai is rectangular with a large central courtyard featuring a pool. The total area is 8000 m2, with dimensions of 55x85 meters. Four entrances lead to the courtyard from each corner of the building. The lower caravanserai contains 242 rooms, originally used for merchant stores and storage, while the first floor was for guests. Each room had a manhole connected to the ground floor via a stepladder, allowing merchants to monitor their goods’ safety. Since 1988, the lower caravanserai has operated as a hotel complex for tourists, city guests, and locals. The complex includes a national cuisine restaurant with 100 seats and luxury suites meeting international standards.
