- Ste Anne Marine National Park - Created in 1973 to protect wildlife, the Sainte Anne Marine Park was the first of its kind in the Indian Ocean. The park, surrounded by stunning turquoise waters, is ideal for snorkeling. Located about 5km from Mahé, this beautiful Marine Park includes six islands near the coast of Mahé: Ste Anne, Ile Moyenne, Ile Ronde, Ile Longue, Ile Cachee, and Ile aux Cerfs. It also boasts one of the largest “seagrass meadows” in the Seychelles.
- Sainte Anne Island - Sainte Anne Island is the largest of the eight islands in the Sainte Anne Marine National Park, known for its breathtaking beaches. It was the site of the first French settlement in 1770, a bold endeavor as the island was surrounded by crocodile-infested swamps. Dominated by a hill rising to 246m and lush tropical vegetation, Ste. Anne served as a base for the Royal Marines during World War II, who protected Victoria, the capital of Seychelles. In the early 19th century, it was also a hub for whaling activities in the Seychelles.
- Cerf Island - Cerf Island is the second largest island in this Marine Park. It was named after the frigate “Le Cerf,” commanded by Corneille Nicolas Morphey, who claimed the Seychelles for the King of France in 1756. The island’s lush vegetation, shallow waters, and beautiful reefs make it perfect for snorkeling, swimming, and scuba diving.
- Moyenne Island - Moyenne Island, just under half a kilometer long, is privately owned. Amidst the lush vegetation of this tropical garden are the remnants of early settlers’ homes, pirates’ graves, and a small thatched chapel.
- Round Island - This small rocky island offers a spectacular underwater world for exploration with its reefs and lagoons. Green sea turtles inhabit the edges of the coral reefs and occasionally come closer to the island. The waters are home to butterfly fish, eagle rays, moray eels, and many other fish species.
- Cachée Island - Also known as Isle Cachée, this tiny island’s name means “hidden” in French, as it appears concealed behind Cerf or seems part of Cerf Island. It is rumored that pirates once buried treasure on Isle Cachée, which is classified as a nature reserve. The island covers an area of 0.022 km² and serves as a nesting site for seabirds.
