Exploring Andalusia’s White Villages: A Family Adventure

As a travel writer and mother of three, I was drawn to the Andalusian Villages tour for its promise of a family-friendly adventure. Join me as I recount our journey through the charming white villages of Andalusia, guided by the vibrant Anja.

Discovering the Hidden Gems of Andalusia

Our journey began in the heart of Seville, where we met our guide, Anja, at the Consulado de Portugal. Her warm smile and vibrant energy set the tone for the day. As a mother of three, I always look for experiences that are both educational and engaging for my children, and this tour promised just that.

Our first stop was Zahara de la Sierra, a picturesque village nestled in the mountains. We started our day with a traditional Andalusian breakfast at a charming roadside bar. The kids were thrilled with the freshly baked bread and local olive oil, a simple yet delightful start to our adventure. Anja’s storytelling brought the history of Zahara to life, and the climb to the ancient guard tower was a highlight. The panoramic views from the top were breathtaking, and even my youngest, who usually shies away from heights, was captivated by the scenery.

Setenil de las Bodegas: A Unique Blend of Nature and Architecture

Our next destination was Setenil de las Bodegas, a town famous for its cave houses. The kids were fascinated by the way the buildings seemed to grow out of the rocks. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the town, taking in the unique architecture and snapping photos of the cliff overhangs that provided much-needed shade from the summer sun.

Lunch was a delightful affair at a local restaurant built into the cliffside. The menu featured traditional Andalusian dishes, and Anja was more than happy to explain each one, making it a fun and educational experience for the kids. The cool interior of the restaurant was a welcome respite from the heat, and the food was a hit with everyone.

Ronda: A Perfect Blend of History and Scenery

Our final stop was the enchanting town of Ronda. Known for its dramatic landscapes and historic bridges, Ronda did not disappoint. Anja guided us to the best viewpoints, where we marveled at the El Tajo gorge and the iconic New Bridge. The kids were particularly intrigued by the stories of the ancient Roman bridge and the oldest bullring in Spain.

Throughout the tour, Anja’s passion for the region was evident. She balanced providing insightful commentary with allowing us the freedom to explore at our own pace. Her ability to engage both adults and children made the experience enjoyable for the whole family.

As we made our way back to Seville, I reflected on the day’s adventures. The Andalusian Villages tour was more than just a sightseeing trip; it was an immersive journey into the heart of Andalusia’s culture and history. For families looking to explore Spain beyond the usual tourist spots, this tour is a must-do. Andalusian Villages Tour
