Mount Rainier National Park - Welcome to the land of glaciers! Surrounded by the famous Wonderland Trail, Mount Rainier National Park boasts massive glaciers like Emmons and Carbon, the largest by volume in the contiguous U.S. Attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually, this park offers breathtaking scenery and rich geology, with thousands attempting to summit Rainier each year, about 50% reaching the top. Additionally, Mt. Rainier in WA is the tallest volcano in mainland America and the 5th tallest mountain in the entire U.S. territory. The summit remains snow-covered year-round, and as the snow melts, it feeds into beautiful waterfalls and expansive lakes, while also irrigating the forest lands.
-
Longmire Museum - (Summer: 20 mins and Winter: 60 mins) Situated at 2,700 feet on the mountain’s southern side, Longmire Museum is located in the historic Longmire district. Formerly a ranger station, it now features exhibits on the park’s geology, wildlife, early explorers, and Native American history. Though small, it offers a powerful introduction to Rainier’s story—concise, informative, and worth the visit.
-
Christine Falls Viewpoint - A picture-perfect waterfall framed by a charming stone bridge, Christine Falls is one of the park’s most photographed locations. Easily accessible from the road, it’s a quick stop with a significant visual reward. (Subject to weather and road conditions.)
-
Narada Falls - (Summer Only – 40 mins) One of the most spectacular waterfalls accessible by car, Narada Falls dramatically cascades over hardened lava rock just steps from the road. Powered by the Paradise River, this roaring waterfall is loud, powerful, and a definite favorite among visitors!
-
Paradise Wilderness Information Center - (Summer Only – 120 mins) Named when early visitors exclaimed “Oh, what a paradise!”, this area offers breathtaking mountain views and vibrant wildflower meadows in summer. Home to the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center, Paradise is also the park’s main winter-use area, receiving over 53 feet of snowfall annually!
-
Reflection Lakes - Summer (May to October) These small alpine lakes truly live up to their name. On calm days, Reflection Lakes perfectly mirror Mount Rainier, creating one of the park’s most iconic views. Blink and you might miss it—but if conditions are right, it’s pure magic.
-
Wonderland Trail - The legendary Wonderland Trail is a 93-mile loop encircling Mount Rainier and is one of the most sought-after backpacking routes in the U.S. While full hikes require rare permits, winter visitors can enjoy a scenic portion of this iconic trail and experience the snowy tranquility of Rainier up close.
