From there, take the shuttle bus to Marienbrücke, a 19th-century bridge offering views over the Pöllat Gorge. Enjoy the sight of Neuschwanstein Castle with its intricate turrets and parapets, and capture photos with the breathtaking Tegelberg mountain as your backdrop.

Next, enter Neuschwanstein Castle for a guided walking tour, discovering its construction for King Ludwig II in the 19th century. Although designed as Ludwig’s retreat, the Romanesque Revival castle was never finished, and the king resided there for less than six months. Marvel at the grand interiors, including murals honoring composer Richard Wagner – Ludwig’s operatic hero – in the Minstrel’s Hall. Explore rooms like Ludwig’s bedroom and admire the stunning decoration of the Byzantine Throne Room.

• Pilgrimage Church of Wies - Depart Hohenschwangau for a brief journey to the renowned Wieskirche (Church in the Meadow) to admire its exquisite rococo interior. It is the only site in the region listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Schloss Linderhof - Continue to Linderhof Castle – another of Ludwig’s former residences.

Situated deep within the forest, Linderhof was the castle where the eccentric king spent most of his time. Step inside to view its opulent rooms such as the Hall of Mirrors and the Audience Chamber, and then visit the exterior Venus Grotto – an artificial cave inspired by Capri’s Blue Grotto (currently closed for maintenance until further notice).
