• Spinalonga - As of 2009, Spinalonga attracts 1,200 to 1,500 visitors daily during the summer, making it one of Crete’s most visited archaeological sites. Known as Leper Island, it served as a quarantine location for patients from Crete and Greece until 1957. Today, thousands of tourists visit Spinalonga each summer via boat from Elounda to explore its ruins, which are being preserved by the Archaeological Service.
