Enjoy listening to your guide share over 270 years of American history. Delight in the narration as you travel through one of the largest National Urban Historic Landmarked Districts in the U.S. Traverse cobblestone streets and relax under the shade of moss-draped oaks. Admire stately mansions, charming squares, and romantic river views.
Discover the Old South on this leisurely, enjoyable tour of Savannah.
- Historic Savannah Theatre - Upon reaching Chippewa Square, visitors often feel something is missing from this iconic landmark. Known as the “Forrest Gump” square, Chippewa Square lacks the famous bench from the movie, yet remains renowned! Just a short distance from this notable square is the Savannah Theatre, which opened in 1818. It is the oldest theatre in the country and still hosts nightly shows.
- The Old Sorrel Weed House Museum & Tours - Savannah is rich with eerie tales and haunted houses to explore. The Sorrel Weed House is among the most haunted in the nation, making it a must-see, especially on the Grave Encounters Tour. The home is also a stunning example of Antebellum architecture and design.
- Forsyth Park - Arguably one of Savannah’s most significant stops, Forsyth Park’s beautiful flowers, foliage, and fountain invite you to pause and enjoy a leisurely stroll. Capture a photo in front of Savannah’s iconic fountain, which turns green for St. Patrick’s Day! Walk around the park to admire Savannah’s architecture or relax under the many live oak trees.
- Massie Heritage Center - Step off the trolley and into a 19th-century classroom. The Massie Heritage Center is Georgia’s oldest continuously operating school. Opened in 1856, the center offers a “Nineteenth Century Classroom,” where students experience a school day as if in the late 1800s. Visitors can explore numerous artifacts and exhibits.
- Cathedral of St. John the Baptist - Known for its role in the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and as a popular wedding venue, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is located on Abercorn Street, overlooking Lafayette Square. When no ceremonies or masses are occurring, visitors can tour the cathedral, admire the stunning stained-glass windows, and explore the pews.
- The Pirates’ House - After admiring the majestic steeples and serene beauty of St. John’s Cathedral, hop back on the trolley to visit The Pirates’ House. Offering a stark contrast to other locations, The Pirates’ House opened in 1753 to real-life pirates! Originally an inn for travelers and sailors seeking rest on land, it now serves as a lively restaurant.
- Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters - Built in 1819, this site includes slave quarters, a carriage house, and fragrant gardens. Guests can tour the grounds to learn about the complex, unfortunate history between those with and without power. The rooms feature period furniture and decorations, along with interactive exhibits.
- Telfair Academy - Just a few blocks from the Owens-Thomas House are the other two parts of the Telfair Museum family: the Jepson Center and Telfair Academy. The Jepson Center, Savannah’s art museum, is a modern marvel housing both permanent collections and temporary exhibits. Children can enjoy the Artzeum and engage with pieces in the interactive Techspace. The Telfair Academy is another art museum, showcasing rooms decorated in 19th-century décor and featuring 19th and 20th-century American and European art.
- Reynolds Square - Reynolds Square epitomizes Savannah’s squares. This block is filled with moss-covered live oaks and features a statue of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. However, the square is named after Georgia’s first governor, John Reynolds. Nearby, enjoy the famous Leopold’s Ice Cream, The Ole Pink House, and the Lucas Theatre. Savor some food, indulge in ice cream, catch a show, then hop back on the trolley!
- River Street Market Place - After enjoying food, drinks, and freshly made candy, head to the River Street Market Place. This open-air market replicates the one that stood here in the 1800s. While cars now replace horse-and-buggy, the experience of browsing the aisles and exploring local vendors remains similar!
- Old City Exchange Bell - Without this stop, you might miss the Old City Exchange Bell and its rich, significant history! Believed to be Georgia’s oldest bell, it bears the year 1802. The bell signaled the end of the day, celebrations, shop closing times, and alerted citizens to fires.
- Savannah City Hall - Another iconic Savannah building is City Hall. Opened in 1905, its unique gold dome was originally copper. Located off Bay Street and Factors Walk, City Hall is close to other popular downtown spots like City Market and Ellis Square.
- Franklin Square - Franklin Square is a final, yet significant stop. After touring the city by trolley, you’ll have seen all Savannah offers and end up in its heart. Designed in 1790 and named after Benjamin Franklin, Franklin Square is adjacent to City Market and Ellis Square, just a few blocks from Bay Street and River Street.
