Good visit! - Great visit to the cave! The activities and other replicas could be a bit longer.

Unmissable... - Remember to book online.
Departures are made in waves according to the chosen time.
Several parking lots nearby, more or less close, the village of Montagnac is about a kilometer away (bars, restaurants, etc.).
Modern building and exhibitions, the reproduction of the cave and the paintings seems real, portions of the cave/frescoes are visible afterwards to better detail them with different rooms and media to comment on the discovery, history, etc... a classic that is unmissable.
To be combined with a cave with real paintings, to have different sensations.

Impressive museum - Our guide and driver to the caves, Lena, was wonderful, she picked us up promptly gave us information about the area and background information on the history of the caves. We were very lucky to have Lena as our driver and guide during 2 other tours in the Dordogne region while we were in Sarlat. She is very knowledgeable of the area, warm and with a great sense of humor. The museum was impressive and very informative, certainly worth the visit.

Beautiful - Magical and very well thought out. Missing just a little historical details about the period

Beautiful - pre book first session! - Lascaux is a staple of prehistoric site touring. It is also extremely popular! Go on the website and pre book the first tour of the day. Come just a tad early and you’ll be able to park in the massive parking lot facing the site. Later in the morning / early afternoon is challenging at best.
The tour will occur in two parts: a reproduction of the original site true to orientation and scale; and a second building where each section has been reproduced and available to get close to and photograph. Educational and beautiful.

Caves: simply impressive - The country roads from Sarlat to Lascaux were so beautiful with the woods still green but with patches of the foliage of red and yellow leaves. So the distance seemed much shorter than it really was. The caves, although replicated, were simply impressive and our guide was knowledgeable and full of humour. There was a crowd, thanks to the school holidays, but it was not intimidating because the touring groups were well managed. The gift shop was a bonus at the end.

Lascaux tour - A well planned chance to see the early human prehistory at the Lascaux site and its environs. A unique and world heritage experience

Evolution - Not being very young anymore, after visiting the previous ones I wanted to visit this version and it is very different.
In fact the 'cave' and (especially what surrounds it) now serves as 'a pretext for many messages: humanity, all alike and reflection on the 'why... Why not, it's interesting.
But with this concrete structure I find that we have lost the soul of the previous ones,
the impression of the real thing even knowing it was replicas...

Chauvet replica is much better than Lascaux experience - Cave very small; tour group too large; tour groups too close together; less than 30 min of the 1h tour was inside the cave replica; audio-visual technology in the 'museum' didn't work; set up so that no photos in cave replica despite the fact it is a replica.
