- Sarena Dzamija - The vibrant mosque in Travnik is a must-see tourist destination, celebrated for its distinctive and authentic design. It features unique decorations of blossoming trees, vines, and apple trees, along with Arabic calligraphic details.
Originally constructed in 1757, the mosque was later restored by Ćamil Ahmed Pasha, who added a bezistan with ten shops and two entrances beneath it, as well as seventy additional shops around it. A fountain with four pipes was also constructed next to the mosque, with water supplied from the existing system.
Following a fire in 1815, Sulejman Pasha Skopljak rebuilt the mosque, renaming it Sulejmanija in his honor. Sulejman Pasha Skopljak served in Travnik from October 27, 1815, to January 23, 1818, and generously donated a prestigious Turkish decoration to the mosque, along with a rich vizier endowment for its upkeep.
- Jajce - Kings once walked the streets of Jajce in ceremonial robes, adorned with gold-threaded mantles, taking in the stunning landscapes that captivate all who visit. Today, Jajce retains its regal charm, inviting exploration of its 30 national monuments.
Imagine what a king might have seen upon waking in the old fortress. Would he gaze at the waters surrounding Jajce, the peaks of Huma or Ranče, or the city descending towards Pliva? Perhaps he would unknowingly look towards his future resting place.
The medieval fortress still offers breathtaking views, especially of the old Bosnian houses and the clock tower. Beyond, one can see the Orthodox Church of Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God and the Franciscan monastery, which houses the remains of Stjepan Tomašević, the last Bosnian king, whose coronation took place near the fortress in the Church of St.
- Pliva Waterfall - Let go of your origins, name, and occupation. Embrace a moment of amnesia. Turn off your mind and turn on your heart. If you wish, keep your lungs active too. Find the best spot to view the waterfall and immerse yourself in the experience. By following these instructions, you can truly experience a culture shock.
Jajce may have an amusing name, but the city is delightful. For the residents of Jajce, accustomed to the beautiful waterfall, it remains a daily marvel. If living in Jajce, one might admire the waterfall every day, every night, perhaps every moment. It’s a wonder of nature, unmatched in its natural beauty.
- Mlincici - Located five kilometers from Jajce’s center, the mills are crafted from oak wood, showcasing traditional construction techniques and local carpentry expertise.
Built on a travertine barrier between the Great and Small Pliva lakes, records from 1562 indicate there were 24 mills in Jajce, with six inactive. By the 17th century, the number rose to 26. Though no longer operational, the mills remain a vital part of the Pliva lakes’ unique panorama.
Wealthy landowners owned the mills, allowing local residents to use them. The tax was paid in flour. For centuries, villagers brought grain and wheat on horseback to be milled into flour.
The mills’ historical significance, reflecting Bosnia’s traditional work and lifestyle, led to their restoration in 2005.
