- Parque Colón - The tour begins at Parque Colón, the central entertainment square of the Colonial City, surrounded by significant landmarks such as the First Cathedral of America, the initial City Hall of Santo Domingo, Calle el Conde, renowned restaurants, shops, and more. A statue of Christopher Columbus, crafted by French sculptor Ernesto Gilbert in 1887, stands in the park.
- Catedral Primada de América de Santo Domingo - This cathedral and minor basilica, dedicated to Santa María de la Encarnación, is situated in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Officially named Santa Iglesia Catedral Basilica Metropolitana de Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Encarnación or Annunciación, it is located between Arzobispo Meriño and Isabela La Católica streets, adjacent to Parque Colón, with its main entrance facing west towards Arzobispo Meriño street, near the corner of Arzobispo Nouel.
The Santo Domingo cathedral is the oldest in America, commissioned by Pope Julius II in 1504. It serves as the headquarters of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, with construction starting in 1512 under the pastoral leadership of the first bishop of Santo Domingo.
- Panteón Nacional - This mausoleum preserves the remains of notable figures in Dominican Republic history.
The National Pantheon has approximately 36 vacant spaces for future heroes, along with an unmarked space dedicated to the unknown soldier. A permanent honor guard, composed of members of the presidential guard in ceremonial attire, stands motionless. One guard performs a solemn walk down the central aisle, from the main entrance to the main altar. The pantheon displays the Dominican flag alongside the flags of the Air Force, Navy, and Army of the Dominican Republic.
- Museo De Las Casas Reales - The Museum of the Royal Houses, or Royal Palaces, served as the headquarters for two palaces dating back to the 16th century. Constructed by order of the Crown of Castile during the reign of Fernando II of Aragon on October 5, 1511, it housed the main government offices of the era.
Known as the Building of the Royal Houses, it hosted the Royal Court, the first court in the New World, and served as the residence for Governors and General Captains, known as the Captaincy General. Notable residents included Bartholomew Columbus and Louis Ferrand.
The Royal Court halls hosted significant meetings and events attended by prominent society figures, royal officials, and appeal judges.
- Alcázar de Colón - Constructed between 1511 and 1514, the Alcázar de Colón was influenced by the one in Mancera de Abajo, Salamanca (Spain), whose ruins still exist. The architect of this fortified palace remains unknown. Predominantly Gothic-Mudejar in style, the Alcázar also features Renaissance elements, particularly in its arcades, and Elizabethan style in its decorative tassels. Built with coral rock masonry, the residence originally had 55 rooms, of which 22 remain.
- Columbus Lighthouse (Faro A Colón) - This cross-shaped monument, symbolizing the Christianization of the Americas, measures approximately 800 meters in length and 36.5 meters in height. It is rumored to house the remains of Admiral Christopher Columbus, though genetic analysis has confirmed these remains are in the Cathedral of Seville.
When illuminated, the lighthouse projects a cross-shaped light into the night sky, visible from about 64 kilometers away, but it disrupts the electricity supply in nearby neighborhoods, so it is only lit on special occasions.
-
The 3 Eyes National Park - This national park is home to one of the city’s best-kept natural secrets, featuring four lakes:
-
Sulfur Lake: The first visible lake upon entry, named for the whitish substance at its bottom, initially thought to be sulfur.
-
La Nevera: The third lake, named for its low temperatures and lack of sunlight, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 21°C.
-
The Lake of the Ladies: The second lake, previously used as a spa, reserved for women due to its discreet location and shallow depth, reaching 2.5 meters at its deepest.
-
Los Zaramagullones: The fourth lake, named after a species of native amphibious ducks, surrounded by natural vegetation.
