- Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos - The Museum of Memory and Human Rights is a public museum in Santiago, Chile, dedicated to honoring the victims of human rights abuses during Augusto Pinochetās military regime (1973-1990). It is situated at Matucana Avenue 501, opposite the Quinta Normal metro station. The museum was inaugurated by President Michelle Bachelet on January 11, 2010, as part of the Bicentennial celebrations of Chile.
- Parque por la Paz Villa Grimaldi - Villa Grimaldi is a vast estate located at the foothills of the Andes in the PeƱalolĆ©n commune, Santiago, Chile. Once one of the largest detention and torture centers during Augusto Pinochetās military rule, it has been transformed into the Villa Grimaldi Peace Park Museum through the efforts of the Villa Grimaldi Peace Park Corporation, supported by social organizations, local residents, human rights groups, and families of the detained and disappeared.

The cemetery essentially functions as a fresh-air gallery, built nearly two hundred years ago. Here, weāll explore Chileās recent history by visiting the resting places of various noteworthy individuals. Of particular interest is Patio 29, a site of historical significance due to the clandestine burials of thousands during the rule of Augusto Pinochet.
Our next stop is the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, a venue dedicated to illustrating the atrocities committed during the 1973-1990 military dictatorship.
Ending our tour at Villa Grimaldi, weāll visit a former community arts center occupying three acres of land. This site, however, bears the scar of Pinochetās regime, as it was repurposed into a political detention and torture center known as Cuartel Terranova.

A must for those interested in politics - It was a very interesting, moving tour of Santiago. Juan led us in appealing English with a lot of passion and detailed knowledge to the relevant places of the overthrow and the military dictatorship, always striving to plan current events at short notice (e.g. changing of the guard). He was able to put political developments, including in other countries, into perspective in a knowledgeable manner.
Excellent tour to a devastating section of Chilean history.

Would recommend - This was a very good and informative half day trip. We had a very eager guide who seemed genuinely interested in Chileās history. We learned so much!
The graveyard was very nice. This was also an interesting way of getting to know some of the important people of Chileās history, as well as customs regarding remembrance and traditions.
Parts of The Museum of Human Rights was unfortunately under maintenance at the time of the tour, but we still got to see, learn and experience as much as possible.
Villa Grimaldi was very interesting, but also very emotional. We got to experience this on our own, which we appreciated. It allowed us to take in the stories, the atmosphere and the significance of the place at our own pace.
All in all, this tour gave us a deeper understanding of Chileās past and present, and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about the countryās history.
Both the guide and the driver was also very helpful in answering other questions we had regarding tips on where to go, what to do, etc

A day well spent! - Allie did an excellent job hosting us and going at our pace. I studied history and appreciated how she brought the history to life for my family member who has not had formal history training.

Excellent Tour with a Wonderful Tour Guide - The tour was amazing! Our tour guide Rose was incredibly friendly and answered all of our many questions about the history of Chile. We were blown away by the sites we visited, some of which we never would have found or would never have been able to navigate on our own. The tour was of course full of heavy material, but it was incredibly interesting and taught us a lot. Definitely recommend it to anyone interested in this part of Chilean history!

A great day to see history with Rose and Antonio - Rose was a very knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly guide. We went to many places that we wouldn't have known about otherwise, with very important history which was well translated to us by Rose. Antonio was a great driver and was very friendly as well. Fabulous guide Juan - Fabulous, our guide Juan was funny, interesting and informative. He told us about the dictatorship history but also the history of other famous left leaning figures. The tour was detailed, engaging and of course confronting at times. A must if you want to understand the context of the country you are visiting.

Don't buy anything from Viator. - My experience was very similar to David_O's. This was one of the worst tourist excursions of my life, exacerbated by Viator's refusal to issue a refund for selling a scam product. I would thus discourage everyone reading from purchasing anything from Viator.
This was billed as āHistoric tour Chile in 1973 Government of Pinochet,ā however:
* Our tour guide provided almost no information, serving more as driver than guide. When prompted with questions, he seemed uninformed about the history.
* The main attraction of the tour, the Museum of Memory, was closed.
* He took us to a different, much smaller museum, which was also closed. After waiting around for it to open, we had to pay for our own tickets.
A reputable e-commerce site would respond by refunding most or all of the cost of the tickets, and severing ties with this vendor. The people at Viator seem to think they will benefit more in the long run from fleecing customers and counting them to walk away quietly than from running an honest business. They deserve to find out the hard way.

I will never use Viator again. - This experience was a disgrace. Our guide had clearly not been to Villa Grimaldi and knew nothing about it; he led us through the cemetery but was unable to locate any of the points/graves of interest except the memorial wall (about which he knew nothing). We spent so long running around the cemetery that we had little time for the Museum. He left us there to make our own way home at our own cost. We requested a refund from Viator for this tour but this was refused.

While I'd have liked to go on the tour, it seems that wasn't in the cards. - Having reserved a spot on this tour, I waited five days to receive confirmation about when it would proceed, which confirmation never came. (I'm in Chile for a week.) I find it decidedly strange that a tour company can't seem to communicate in any meaningful way with its clients. I wouldn't be in a hurry to do business with them again. A third party is refunding the money that I paid to these folks.
