• Sant’Angelo Muxaro - Enjoy an amazing day in the Sicani mountains, an area waiting to be explored in the heart of Sicily. The journey begins at the meeting point and proceeds to the first charming village of the excursion, Sant’Angelo Muxaro. Here, visitors will explore the Necropolis of the Sicani, dating back to the Minoans. According to Greek mythology, it was the capital of the Sicanians, the pre-Greek inhabitants considered native to Sicily. Legend has it that the “Kamikos” fortress of Daedalus was constructed for King Sicanus Kokalos. A stroll through the village’s quaint alleys leads to the museum, which showcases valuable archaeological artifacts.
• Eremo di Santa Rosalia alla Quisquina - The next stop is the Hermitage of Santa Rosalia alla Quisquina, a mystical and captivating site nestled in the forest, a must-visit for pilgrims from Palermo. Here, the story of the virgin and patroness of Palermo will be shared. The hermitage features not only the “cave” but also the church, crypt, and conventual buildings such as cells, a kitchen, and a refectory.
• Cammarata - In the afternoon, the tour continues to Cammarata, regarded as the jewel of the Sicani mountains, a town situated at the mountain’s base, approximately 700 meters above sea level. Lunch will be enjoyed at a traditional “Sicilian trattoria,” featuring high-quality products from the Sicani mountains, expertly prepared by the chef. After lunch, a leisurely walk in the center of San Giovanni Gemini will reveal the Black Christ “Gesù Nazarè” housed in the Mother Church, where its intriguing story will be shared. The return to the base is scheduled for around 5 pm.
