  A Unique Sickle for Those Seeking Excellence

Established in 1907, Munetoshi Sickle Works is among the few remaining factories in Sanjo City that still produces sickles. Koichi Tsurumaki, a third-generation artisan with over 50 years of blacksmithing expertise, meticulously handcrafts each sickle with a commitment to quality, earning him the title of a certified traditional craftsman. These sickles, crafted from high-quality steel known for its superior sharpness and ease of sharpening, are available in thin, medium, and thick options to cater to various needs, from cutting soft grass to trimming small branches.

• 吉沢染工場 - Witness the dyeing process of various types of “tenugui” (traditional Japanese hand towels) using age-old techniques. Dyeing was once a major industry in Sanjo City, but over time, it has nearly vanished. This factory, the last of its kind, preserves the heritage of that era.
• 遊亀楼 魚兵 (ゆうきろう うおひょう) - Enjoy a meal at a long-standing local restaurant.
• Hinoura Cutlery Studio - Observe the artisans’ craftsmanship up close at Hinoura Cutlery Workshop, a blacksmith shop with over a century of history, and receive a handmade mini hatchet (with optional name engraving) as a gift.
• (株)山谷産業 - Experience the functionality of tools made in Tsubame-Sanjo at a nearby shop. Souvenirs are also available for purchase on-site.
• グランピングレストラン「ＴＲＥＥ」 - Conclude the trip at a chic local café, reflecting on the journey with your guide.
• Sanjo - Explore the manufacturing town of Sanjo by bicycle as a dedicated guide leads you to hidden local gems, such as traditional dumpling shops and yakitori (grilled chicken) stands, unique to the region.

Explore the streets of this industrial town by cycling and gain exclusive access to local workshops that are typically not open to the public, allowing you to observe the artisans’ skills firsthand.

During this tour, participants will ride a high-performance e-Bike, enjoying the breeze as they are led to historical workshops and local attractions that are usually off-limits, all thanks to the unique knowledge of a local tour guide. Additionally, a small machete crafted by a local artisan will be given as a souvenir.

Throughout the tour, participants will witness the dedication and skill of the craftsmen, gaining a deeper appreciation of life in the Tsubame-Sanjo area. This activity is available for both individual travelers and groups.
