In Playón, near San Salvador, remnants of the expelled lava are visible. Within the crater lies a smaller one, “Boqueroncito.”
El Boquerón enjoys a cool temperate climate year-round. The park is home to numerous ornamental plant species, such as “cartridges,” hydrangeas, wild sultanas, and begonias. The most common animal species include armadillos, raccoons, deer, and foxes.

- Catedral Metropolitana - The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Divine Savior of the World serves as the principal church of the Catholic archdiocese of San Salvador, El Salvador, and is the seat of the metropolitan archbishop.
- National Palace - Situated in the historic center of El Salvador’s capital, the National Palace is a two-story building predominantly in the neoclassical style, with some Renaissance and minor Gothic elements. Its gates and other bronze and iron decorations are crafted in the art nouveau style, making its architecture eclectic.
- Biblioteca Nacional de El Salvador - The National Library of El Salvador, or BINAES, is a public institution rebuilt by the Government of El Salvador with assistance from the People’s Republic of China on November 14, 2023. It is located in the Historic Center of San Salvador, adjacent to Plaza Gerardo Barrios, opposite the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador, and to the left of the National Palace of El Salvador. The original site housed the former Francisco Gavidia National Library (1870-2021) and the buildings of Banco Hipotecario and Rodríguez Porth. The new BINAES features auditoriums, a national art collection, and the General Archive of the Nation, previously located in the National Palace of El Salvador.
