Birding with Rodolfo in El Salvador - I birded with Rodolfo Walsh on March 1 in El Boqueron NP and in Ecoparque El Espino. On March 3, I again birded with him at Los Volcanos NP and Joya de Ceres Sitio Arqueologico park. I have been fortunate to have birded with many guides in some strange and exotic places. Rodolfo is at the top of my list of great guides to spend time with. Not only can he easily identify birds by sight and sound, he also has a knack for helping me see in the trees where the birds were. When you travel between sites ask him to play some of his music. He is a great singer/song writer. If I ever travel again to that wonderful country I will certainly look him up.

Birding with Rodolfo in El Salvador - I would highly recommend doing a bird tour with Rodolfo. This was my first outing with a guide and I absolutely loved it. Rodolfo is very nice and very knowledgeable about the birds in El Salvador. He easily recognizes birds by sight and by ear and he is very good at pointing out where the birds are if I don't see them immediately.I visited the El Espino ecoparc and El Boqueron with him for about six hours and we saw a lot of very nice species.I would. definitely take another tour with him if I go back to El Salvador and I definitely recommend him as a birding guide.

Amazing and unique experience! - We went on the Cloud forest adventure with Rodolfo and we were completely charmed! We've never done a bird watching tour before, but we love birds and we own two parrots. Rodolfo is such a gentle and knowledgeable soul; his passion for birds is contagious and he made us want to observe the birds more. If we go back to El Salvador or if we go to Guatemala, we will definitely book another tour with him. Even it it's a tad pricey, I believe it is 100% worth it. That's what made us hesitate at first, but we're so happy we decided to go on with it anyways. Thanks for everything, Rodolfo! ☺

Great tours for serious birders (and probably great for beginners, too) - Highly recommend! Rodolfo worked with us to find the correct tours. He assigned Ricky to us for both days and Ricky was great. We managed to find many birds that were supposed to have left the area by middle February. I think we saw every species that experienced birders would expect to see, plus a couple of the more secretive ones. The Northern Potoo was our favorite. We know we lucked up on that one.

A must do activity if you’re in the country - As a Salvadoran, I never thought of my country as a birding destination, but boy was I wrong! We did the Bahia de Jiquilisco + Monkey Reserve tour and included the boat ride add-on. It’s a total must if you do this tour. It was my first time seeing so many birds in a single day: 73 species, plus crocodiles and lizards! It was an amazing experience. Ever since I started birding, I’ve wanted to see a Kingfisher, and on this trip, my wish finally came true. I also got to see a Caracara and my favorite, the Black-headed Trogon! Rodolfo was amazing the entire time; he is so knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the birds. I’ll be going back to El Salvador in 2026, and I will definitely be contacting Rodolfo to do another tour!"

Great Experience! - Rodolfo was fantastic! His English was perfect and his knowledge of the birds was extremely accurate - by sight and sound. We identified more than 100 species in two half-day trips with him. Having traveled widely himself he was an excellent conversationalist. We very much enjoyed our time with Rodolfo: five out of five stars.

He is knowledgeable, friendly, always on time and his suggestions were always pertinent. We would highly recommend Rodolpho for a great experience in Salvador. Our trip would not have been the same with out him

Fantasitc. Do not miss this tour! - You should not miss the top notch birding tours with Rodolfo Welsh, maestro photographer and bird specialist. You do not need a strong bird watching expreince, but will still enjoy a fantastic trip. If you have a stron experince, you will definately go deeper. He picked me up from a hotel in San Salvador super early morning and guided me in the Jiqulisco Bay & Spider Monkey Forest. His insightful knowledge of where to find what species is amazing. With passion and patience, he not only spots birds by sound but also advise good angles for photographing. With the binoculars he kindly lent me, it was so easy to follow him. Among so many species we saw were the two species that I really wanted to see during the trip – turquoise-browed motmot and common squirrel cuckoo. Big bonus was painted bunting and black-headed trogon that he spotted even during lunch time. Besides learning about endemic species, coming from the US it was also nice to see those migrated such as warblers and orioles, which are spending winter here. I wished I have had more time to visit other spectacular sites with him in El Salvador. It was also such a great pleasure meeting with Ricky, the birding partner of Rodolfo, who guided me in EcoParque and El Boqueron near San Salvador. Do not underestimate these sites despite they are near the capital - the trip was amazing! In dense forests, and despite unusual wind, Ricky was able to find so many species thanks to his talent to spot by sound. I appreciated his sharing of his knowledge on habitats & ecosystem where birds live. Along with a long list of species that we saw, he so kindly shared fantastic photos from the trip.

Outstanding Birding with a World-Class Guide - What an incredible birding experience in a truly beautiful land! As an avian photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to bird with local guides throughout Central America, and I can confidently say that our guide, Rodolfo, is a top-tier birding expert. I have yet to encounter a guide who is as professional, caring, and thoughtful. He is someone who so clearly demonstrates that his number one priority is creating an exceptional experience for his guests. From the very first moments at our initial birding site, our small group of three could immediately sense his enthusiasm and genuine passion for locating both endemic and migrating species. Rodolfo’s knowledge, patience, and dedication made the experience not only productive, but truly memorable. I would highly recommend him to any birder, or even non-birder who wants to experience the true natural beauty of El Salvador.
