- Geyser del Tatio - El Tatio, derived from the Kunza term “tata-iu” meaning “the grandfather who cries,” is among the highest geyser fields globally. Situated in the Andes Mountains northeast of San Pedro de Atacama, it is the largest geyser group in the southern hemisphere and ranks third worldwide, following Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia). The peak activity of these fumaroles occurs between 06:00 and 07:00 hrs, with temperatures soaring to 85°C. On the return journey, visitors can spot wildlife such as vicuñas, llamas, rheas, and vizcachas. The flora features impressive giant cacti, llaretas, and coirón. From a viewpoint, the small town of Machuca can be seen, where the few residents primarily engage in grazing and cheese production. Nearby is the Laguna Salada, home to flamingo families, ducks, and seagulls, set against a stunningly beautiful landscape.
