We booked the Astronomico Tour after traveling all the way from Europe, hoping it will be one of the highlights of our trip. Instead, it was the worst tour experience we have ever had. The primary issues revolve around the guide, Ilian, and a critical safety lapse in transportation. Service Breakdown: English Tour Refused We paid specifically for an English-speaking tour. It was also on his notes. Guide Ilian spoke exclusively in Spanish for the first 15-20minutes, completely ignoring the English speakers in the group. When I asked in a very straightforward way if he would translate, he became openly hostile, refused to translate the content fully, and essentially told us that if we weren't happy, we should leave. His behavior was shockingly disrespectful and dismissive, particularly considering we are paying clients from a major international market. The Unacceptable Safety Incident: Following HIS SUGGESTION , we were to be taken back to the city immediately. However, the driver (Adel) and the minivan were gone. We were stranded in a remote, dark location for over 40-50 minutes waiting for the driver to return. When questioned, Ilian admitted he was trying to communicate with the driver via text messages for 20 minutes, wasting critical time instead of making a direct phone call. This is gross negligence. What if there had been a medical emergency, like a heart attack? Leaving a group in a remote location without any immediate transportation resource is a massive safety violation. Systemic Company Failure: When we finally returned the next day to seek a refund (apart from losing two hours of our precious holiday time), the travel agent confirmed that this guide has a repeated history of similar complaints. This indicates a profound failure on the part of the tour company to prioritize safety and quality control. They are knowingly employing staff who fail to deliver the contracted service and violate basic safety protocols. BOTTOM LINE: Do not risk your safety or your valuable holiday time with this operator.
