Excellent service and... - Excellent service and attention of the guide cesar otch.. With a great knowledge of the history and culture of the cozumel population. We taste tequila, mojitos, honey, chocolate and traditional cozumel food. Recommended 100% this tour.

Great tour - Our tour guide Isaac was amazing. He took us to places we wanted to go to besides what was on the tour. He spent a lot of time with us and was very accommodating.

Carlos was amazing. - Carlos was amazing. Took us to very beautiful sights & stopped everywhere we wanted. Need lots of tipping cash, especially at the Otoch village as every place inside wants tips, but it was a really great stop.

Emilio, our driver, was excellent! Local attractions were not crowded , clean, and safe. - The directions as to where to meet is wrong. Hooters no longer exists. Arrange a meeting place near Starbucks or Senior Frogs first. Jeeps seats five, so someone sits in the middle.

Informative trip with a tip and incontable ride - We enjoyed getting to know the culture and history. Tío was most helpful and courteous. I would have liked that we were in a more comfortable van and not a suv with 5 people, where three of them were squeezed into the back row. Our host was very friendly, patient with us when we went to the beach but constantly reminding us about tipping him just a little too much. He made the comment that his family would not be happy with him if he came home with nothing. My older daughter and myself both gave him a tip.

Short Tour of Cozumel - My family was a group of 9 that cruised to Cozumel. The tour said it was supposed to start at 9AM but the tour guide didn’t even meet up with us til 10AM so we waited outside in rainy weather for an hour. Tour guide found us and had us walk about a mile to where the car was located. We get into the car and then are told a group of 4 more people are supposed to join us in our vehicle. We drive to the other port to pickup the other family so now there is 13 of us + tour guide all in one van. We go to the first stop and it is an area with a traditional Mayan dance performance, tequila tasting, chocolate tasting, and taco tasting. Then we are taken to 2 different beaches where we stopped for 30 min at each beach. The last stop was “Palm Beach” listed on the itinerary as a 60 minute stop but the tour guide said only 30 minutes here at first. We asked the guide to let us enjoy the beach for 60 minutes instead and he eventually let us. Overall the tour seemed a bit rushed and I was hoping that our group of 9 people didn’t have to get crammed into one vehicle with 4 other people. A majority of my group was also vegetarian and the taco tasting did not have any other option instead of pork. I booked this tour based off of reviews and hope this will help the next group.

Money Grab, but our tour guide was great. - First, our tour guide, Tio was AMAZING. This rating is not about his performance, but the tour itself. He gets 5 Stars. But I am rating the tour.
1. Communication problems. 0/5 stars
The phone number in the confirmation is incorrect. We were told to meet by a Hooters that no longer existed. The confirmation email needs serious help. The directions are terrible. You have to walk around the upstairs of the mall area to get to where the Hooters used to be. We definitely started out concerned and anxious because of the poor communication BY THE COMPANY. (Again, Tio is great.) The number listed in the confirmation has an extra 1 in it. We did meet by the lighthouse next to the Starbucks and what used to be a Hooters. I don't know why they couldn't just update this. We were told the Hooters had been gone 6 months when we started asking around.
2. Tour Stops. This is obviously one of those tours where the operators get a kickback based on how much you spend where. Tio did a great job of stopping along our tour to point out historical information, interesting plants, talk about seaweed and the animals on the island, and his life there. We enjoyed the car ride very much. Our family of 4 was in a Jeep Wrangler with our guide/driver, Tio.
They take you to:
- a store with bathrooms (T shirts, souvenirs, etc.) a little off the beaten path. Prices were in line with shops by the cruise pier.
- a photo stop by small replica ruins with people dressed in traditional Mayan ritual wear (tip expected)
- option to stop by a Catholic church
- Otoch. This part was the WORST. First, you watch a cleansing ritual which is admittedly cool, but the performers immediately ask you for a tip. I wish we had left then.
Then they take your photo but your tour guide does not... so they can ask you to buy a printed photo and tacky frame for $40! From there, they take you to honey/chocolate and/or tequila tasting. We had no cell service to verify what they were saying about the tequila and we will continue to research, but believe we were scammed and the Tequila is not as rare and expensive as they claimed. The bottles we received did not have the same markings on them as the ones they displayed/tasted with us. They also did some skeezy converting from pesos to dollars and back and charged us an extra $26. We plan to dispute this charge with our credit card.
The mini tacos they served were good and my kids loved them. We were glad to leave this money-grab by the end. Mayan ritual & tacos are the only highlight.
- Beach restaurant. It's on the shore but you can't access the water because of the waves. There's no way locals eat at this place. Margaritas were $13, sodas around $4. It cost us $80+ for lunch. There are shops nearby where some of the people are aggressive sellers. Our kids did purchase items here. one we were told was fish bone but I now believe to be some kind of plaster. As we were purchasing that item, another shopkeeper walked over to where we were and tried to tell us that item was $50 that was already agreed to for $18 by another shopkeeper. Thankfully the original shopkeeper stepped in and verified $18, but that price hike is insane! Just beware... lots of haggling.
- Beach break at Palm Beach. This was the BEST part of the tour. There was a trampoline in the water, and you could purchase drinks and food (again, pricey, but we did not pay to enter). The water was crystal clear but did have some seaweed - not something they can control. Our kids loved this and raved about it being one of their favorite things. The water was very calm. I wish we had ordered food here so we could spend more time there.
Unfortunately, we had to rush back to our ship due to short port time or we would have stayed longer as the beach was the best part.
I'd skip the beach restaurant and all of Otoch if I did it again. Or book an independent guide who is not going to take you to the money-grabs for their greedy company owners.
