- Ignacio Allende House (Casa de Ignacio Allende) - A brief description of the house’s architectural style and a short biography of Ignacio Allende will be provided. The tour will cover the social forces in New Spain and Europe that led to the War of Independence from Spain. Additionally, there will be a discussion on the early days of San Miguel, the silver trail from Mexico City to Santa Fe, New Mexico, which passed through San Miguel, bringing prosperity in the 18th century.
- El Jardin - A short discussion on the origins of the Jardin will be presented, explaining why it is the geographical, social, and cultural heart of San Miguel de Allende. A brief historical sketch of Father Miguel Hidalgo, the prominent hero of the War of Independence, will also be included.
- Casa del Mayorazgo de Canal - A brief description of the architectural style and an explanation of the symbolism on the facade above the main entrance will be given. A short history of the Canal Family’s patriarch, Don Manuel Tomas Canal, will be shared. Guests will be informed that the guard inside the door is there to have them sign in and leave backpacks and water bottles behind. The house is open to the public free of charge.
- Bellas Artes - Guests will enter the courtyard, stroll through the gardens, or find a seat to listen to the story of the building’s beginnings as a convent in the mid-18th century. They will learn about the art school’s inception in 1938, which attracted American and Canadian expats to San Miguel to study art, sparking a renaissance over the past 80 years. The arrival of the renowned Mexican artist David Siqueiros and the challenges faced in the late 1940s leading to its closure will be discussed. Visitors will also explore the mural room where David Siqueiros taught a mural painting class and view pieces of his genius that remain today. The tour concludes at the end of audio recording #10.
